is that your personal adenium because i believe that is a different type of adenium and the caudex isn't there I have the history on the plant that was grown under partial sun and not under hydroponic systems and she was watering the plant once a month because it was a rainy summer i was instructed to putit under Florence light or full sun for flowering from the women who started the plant from seed. The glass that the plant is in has breathing holes in the glass it is made for plants and i am not really convinced in your knowledge on the plants because everyone who grow adenium grow them for there caudex and your pic looks nothing like a adeniums i have seen

Hi, Toni - I fertilized with Dyna-Gro Foliage Pro - can't remember the numbers on that one, and I no longer have the original container. I think I over-fertilized, since this plant can usually stand to be watered quite liberally, especially in summer. I am a little worried about leaching the soil because since I repotted this plant in a glazed ceramic container, it hasn't dried down as fast as I expected, but I guess I will have to try it before this brown crispiness gets any worse. I was thinking the problem was overwatering because the inner margins of the brown areas are yellow. Yes, hopefully this plant will pull through - it's one of my favorites - I actually rescued it from wal mart, which was selling it as a pseudo-bonsai (with the rocks glued over the top of the soil), and it had fallen down behind the shelves and gotten half-smashed. I was happy, though: I got it for half off! I have had it for a year and it's never showed signs of blooming.

Andrea, Arizona sun will be OK for adenium, just be careful with caudex and roots! Double pots are great for protecting roots from overheating, especially after watering. This summer I killed 4 adeniums, they were on smallish size and roots cooked in small black nursery pots during 90+ weather with heavy rain! When i pulled first one out of pot, I realized that temp inside must be above 120 degrees, add humid media and you have DR soup instead of roots :(. I had always kept my DRs in bigger clay pots and never had this problem, and now I lost whole bunch at once! I believe that second pot would help prevent this problem! Aggie

I respectfully disagree: Get it out of the wet soil immediately. Check for rotted roots. Snip off any mushy roots. Look for mushy spots in the caudex. If the caudex has already gotten mushy, it probably is too late. If not, repot properly with none of the old soil remaining. Yes, it should be in a shallow (azalea) pot instead of a deep one. HTH - Jo
