Yellow jackets..help!
Comments (4)What size pot are you talking about? It could be that the yellow jackets have made a nest in the ground UNDER the pot and are using the pot as an entry point to their nest. I have had this happen once. You didn't say if it was on the ground or not. If it is on the ground, here is what I did. I waited till dark when the insects have gone to bed (haha). They are all on the nest. Move the pot. ( To keep from getting too close use a stick to push it over). If they have a nest under the pot, there will be a sizable entry point in the ground. The hole will likely be as big or bigger than a thumb. With the hen and chicks out of the way, you can pour any kind of pesticide in there (sevin, gasoline, etc).Do this in the dark with only a flashlite as necessary as they may start out of the nest as the light can alert them. All this is if the pot is on the ground. If not, I think you should remove the plant from the pot.do this in the dark. Maybe knock it over with a stick and let the plant lie there in the open. This should not hurt the plant if you don't leave it there out of the pot more than a day as this is a succulent. The yellow jackets should move on....See MoreCoat closet & other places to store coats
Comments (12)The transition seasons are hardest, aren't they? But I would say either store only TWO coats (a lightish one for whichever season you have, and a heavier one for that season) in that closet. At the very least, I would say that wool dress coats should go in the bedrooms; they're probably not used daily. And when you want them (dress-up days), you'll be willing to go get them, probably. (And if you're not, then maybe you don't really need to own them--I do not ever buy my kids, or me, dress coats.) And rain coats can go in the closets, because if you need them, you'll REALLY need them, and you'll be willing to go there to get them. And you probably don't use them *that* often. Or, start storing ALL coats in the bedrooms. At the very least, perhaps you can train yourself to travel all the way into your bedroom before you take your coat off; then it's just the 2 boys. (I bought a Lands End Squall, bcs it's light AND heavy.)...See MoreNew drywall finish question. Skim coat=plaster coat=?
Comments (21)We did veneer plaster for a couple of reasons. In our regional area, no one does it. We had to go to a specialty supplier and order it in. We found someone who trained in Maine to install it and the only reason it was a bit more expensive than drywall is because our original framing was uneven and we ordered 5/8" thick sheets. I had a pretty strong aversion to drywall after the adventures with mold. Veener plaster is freakin' gorgeous, perfectly smooth and we would do it again in a heartbeat. The feel of it perfectly matches the rest of the house - which is all 1920's plaster. Here, people call the supposedly water resistant drywall "blueboard", so I was surprised by what it looked like (gray, gray and more gray) and that it was made up of two slightly different layers and that it is much harder and denser than drywall. It works pretty well as a sound deadener too! @casey Wow, that is really nice!...See MoreClean leather jacket
Comments (6)If you can find a source, saddle soap is the cleaning product to use with leather. Most shoe stores sell it and any retailer who sells leather products should have it. Mine is in a tin similar to a paste shoe polish tin. Moisten a rag with water, mix it into the saddle soap paste and then apply to the leather. Once it dries, rub or buff it off to a nice luster. I seem to think that it comes in a liquid form, as well. The thing to consider with leather is to never use a product that will dry the leather. That's why I, personally, would not use Dawn...or any product with an alcohol base. But you can wipe the leather down with a damp cloth as long as you hand dry it once the moisture has been applied. Don't hang it out to dry...or leave it wet. I, too, would want to get rid of any odor [perhaps a pesticide was used in the store] so I understand your desire to clean it. If you don't want to put the time into using the saddle soap...ask a good dry cleaner in your area whether they are equipped to clean it. Some cleaners aren't...so use caution. Many moons ago I lost a very high end suede pant suit to the ineptitude of my local dry cleaner so I learned from experience not to be so trusting. Good luck....HTH. Anne...See Moremaggie200
