Veining from counter to backsplash

Just had this counter and backsplash installed in our master bath, vanity and second bath. I love the quartzite but am really disappointed in the flow of the veins. The fabricator came out yesterday and insists the difference in flow is caused by the difference between the cut and placement on top of the countertop. I think this would only cause a difference of 3cm but the space between flow is 14 cm in some places. Do we just "go with the flow" and accept what we have or insist that the fabricator make it right. Also, any suggestions on shower and floor tiles to go with it? The quartzite has a lot of gray, blue and aquamarine. Would like to pull out the blue or aquamarine through our shower tile.

I would let it go (especially if you did not talk with them about layout/veining in advance and agree to a plan) -- natural stone is not meant to be perfect, I think that is a lot of its beauty. For the shower/floor tiles I would go dead simple because the counter is dramatic -- enjoy your new bath!

@Joseph - good news! I spoke to Dani about the Axiom translucent white. I have a question about filling in the joints. There are some minor ragged edges where the fabricator cut the quartz countertop. This is where it meets the wall. Will the translucent white silicone hide these? I know it's not clear colored, but wondering if it will fill in and mask some minor cracks?

I think it's best to focus on getting a quartz that is either very solid and/or in a contrasting color to your marble (a distinct shape like herringbone also helps). If they are too close in pattern, the faux finish will stick out, imho. Regarding the backsplash behind the stove -- some people have had problems, especially those that fry a lot. I've been diligent with sealing and wiping up after use. (As aside, we have pure white quartz in one kitchen and gloss black granite in another -- both show crumbs and smears, for different reasons. The grey quartz shows the least).

thank you, what did you mean by "I would not take up the charge of the sink"? Do you mean you wouldn't bother replacing? Regarding the flooring....the rest of the house has the old school 3/4" oak flooring so if I change the flooring to hardwood in the kitchen and entryway, I would have to change out all the hardwood in the living room and kitchen. This was my thought process anyway. I did check out the cost and for the flooring I like, it would be a lot of $. To answer your question, the sq footage of the combined entry way and kitchen which is currently tiled, is about 170 sq ft. what did you mean about backsplash? I was thinking black granite counter top and then a simple backsplash and yes I def want a coordinated look. warm, inviting and not choppy and misfitting. thanks again

Discussing layout and seaming (esp in your case with counters and backsplash being the same) before install is very important. Our fabricators were very good at pointing all this out, and we insisted on seeing how the pieces would be cut, went in person to tape the template onto the slabs etc…..if yours didn’t it would have been important for you to bring this up. At this point I think it’s too late.

I'm not sure what the complaint is about. He did a pretty great matching job. Most fabricators will tape out the cuts on the slab prior to cutting and ask you to approve them. But even if that didn't happen, I think you're being overly picky.

I would choose a cream color for your floors and shower. Your counters have lots of drama, and any colors would compete with it and look too busy.

I'm sorry but I don't see the problem. I see an excellent job of matching the stone and laying it out. It's natural stone.

Unless you asked specifically for the veins to match this is as good as it gets.BTW to do so woudl probably have cost a lot more too. I agree keep everything else simple with that couter . BTW always good to show us the whole space when asking for advice.

We love our quartzite and have decided to live with the imperfections. Would love to get ideas on our shower and floor tiles. We are choosing between two marble tiles. One brings out the blue the other is lighter with some blue-grays and gray.
