What is the purpose of an area rug on top of carpet?
Comments (6)To cover unfortunate stains in the carpet that you can't afford (or don't have the option to because you don't own the place) to tear out... ;-) Make sure you use a rug "pad" made for carpeting, not hard floors. It will keep the rug from "creeping" and bunching. Also, a thick squishy rug over a thick, squishy, well-padded carpet will dent badly from the weight of furniture and that can look a little peculiar. If you already have a plushy carpet over a cushy pad, rethink this idea....See MoreArea rug over wall to wsll carpet in living room.
Comments (10)Yes here is the picture, In the same color. no eating or drinking , mainly conversational. So we r having four of these sofas. 2 on each of the facing walls. The cream 3 seater that I already have will go on the back wall. (we also considered keeping the cream sofas in the same spot as they r right now, and just putting two of these chocolate sofas on the opposite wall , or one chocolate 3 seater opposite cream 3 seater, and one chocolate 2 seater opposite the cream seater. My husband says it would look fine but I think they would look odd. ) no coffee tables , if I get space for end table I would, v small ones. Like those mini round ones, but really they won’t serve any purpose. since i m filling each facing walls with two 3-seaters, I may get space for only two chairs....See MoreArea rugs as alternative to new wall to wall carpeting?
Comments (8)I did this with a worn out wall to wall carpet in my bedroom because I knew I was remodeling and would be replacing the old carpet with wood flooring. I cleaned the carpet and then put a very large area rug on it and it was fine. Mine was a large Karastan in the classic Kirman pattern. I just finished my remodel and am using the same rug except over the hardwood floors. It worked for me because it looked as though the rug was intentionally used over the carpet. As others have posted, it would depend on exactly what the layout was but I don't see why it wouldn't work. I have seen area rugs being intentionally put over wall to wall in living rooms as part of the design....See MoreWhat Size Area Rug do I Make from Carpet Remnant
Comments (6)8 x 14' 6" ........Why? You'll be exactly 18 inches from every wall. You can't make" an 8' remnant " any wider than 8' can you ? : )Nope. You can't. So it can't be 12 inches from the walls, it is already 18 inches from two walls. It's MATH kids. All you can fiddle with here is the length....See Moreelcieg
