What is the purpose of an area rug on top of carpet?
Comments (6)To cover unfortunate stains in the carpet that you can't afford (or don't have the option to because you don't own the place) to tear out... ;-) Make sure you use a rug "pad" made for carpeting, not hard floors. It will keep the rug from "creeping" and bunching. Also, a thick squishy rug over a thick, squishy, well-padded carpet will dent badly from the weight of furniture and that can look a little peculiar. If you already have a plushy carpet over a cushy pad, rethink this idea....See MoreDo you put Area Rugs over carpet?
Comments (17)Do you have to put pads under an area rug? Figured the wall to wall was good enough padding. I have 1/2" pad under my wall to wall. To answer OP's question, I use area rugs in my house to "anchor" the furniture, add some pattern/texture (in my living room, I'll post pics once I get furniture back in, had ceiling painted today). I also use one in my family room to anchor and define the "conversation area" since our breakfast nook is tucked into a corner of that room (also have round area rug under round breakfast table, it's too small but it keeps stains off the WTW carpet!)....See MoreCarpet Remnants or large rug?
Comments (11)I've done both and loved both. I had no preconceived ideas. In the first case, I went to a store that sold both rugs and carpet remnants and ended up finding just what I wanted as a remnant and it was bound, so it was basically just a rug I loved. Years later at another house I bought a wool oriental rug on sale, great buy and I loved it. I was just out shopping with a friend, not even for rugs, just boppin' around the housewares at Macy's. Loved that one too. So it just boils down to shopping around for what you want at a good price that you like....See MoreNeed advice on what color area rug to cover old beige carpet
