How can I fuse the circle back together to my sink grid?

I have a Blanco Stainless Steel Sink Grid. Recently, the circle (which goes around the drain area) has dislodged itself. Few months ago, I tried to add tiny brackets and solder them onto the grid, but as one can see, that did not last very long. See photos attached.

I realize that when one puts heavy pots / pans, there will always be a friction contact to this area (since the circle is a tiny bit above the rest of the grid and sticks out). Sure, I can get a new one, but perhaps I can take it to a shop and pay them $10 to have it professionally welded? But I am concerned that they will just damage the grid itself as my stainless steel will turn into “ugly burned steel”.

What are my potential solutions? All input is very much appreciated

If you know of a weld shop that will work for $10 let the world know, but a welder won't touch your grid for less the $149.95. Ugly will depend on the welder and how he welds it, mig, tig or torch. If you can solder you should be able to silver solder but you need a hotter torch. A Mapp gas torch is hot enough to silver solder and stainless is one of the easiest metals to use it on.

Real Silver solder contains 45% to 65% silver and what you should use.

Chris45ny, all you can do is give me your opinion and I appreciate you taking the time to reply. Westiegirl, glad to hear you have not felt the need to get a sink grid after 4 months. I must say that I am a little suspicious of the HD sink. We hear that often, about items not being the same from super stores - usually faucets & such. Breezygirl, odd how we feel like we know you because we have heard & seen so much from you. I am especially glad you replied because I know you have the same metallic grey color as I do and I knew you didn't start out with a sink grid. I suspect I will hate them too, as I didn't care for them the few times that I washed at other people's sinks with grids & have hated things getting trapped under there & things not able to stand in the sink, etc. Mabeldingeldine, glad to hear you have put that sink through a lot & super hot water to boot. Awesome news! Maybe the problem is in extremely cold areas? I am a little envious of the thought of your garden & even more envious of your chilies! Spicy, my favorite. I have a small outdoor deck where I grow flowers. Nowhere for veggies & such, but I still love tinkering in my little garden. A2gemimi, I haven't forgotten you & I have been lurking late at night. I replied to your PMs so I hope you got my replies. My faucet is centered. You can PM me to see how I like it centered, as things will be too crazy for me to check GW daily. Mine is a cast iron sink by kohler but mine does the same thing. I use bon ami on the sink where my grid feet have made yellowish spots. The bon ami cleaner does not scratch at all. I clean the grid with hot soapy water. I have started fillig up my sink with hot soapy water to clean my grid and my sink. This helps keep it from getting really yellowed. You can also use the bon ami cleanser on the bottom of the grid feet. It does a good job. Hope this helps.

I have a large single bowl ss sink with a grid, and no disposal. I keep a little mesh screen over the drain to catch crud (so much easier than the typical drain plug.) I like (1) draining pasta without water backing up into the colander. (2) washing or filling pots without blocking the drain hole. (3) it raises the effective floor of the sink a bit for my back. (4) you can use it to drain washed dishes directly in the sink and (5) it is a more level surface than the canted surface of the sink. I wish it fit in my dishwasher because it does need to be scrubbed regularly or it will get gross. The little rubber feet create teeny cups that are always full of water.

Ah, it sounds like we all are in the same sleep-deprived boat! LOL! We have been to so many show rooms on the SF Peninsula because of trying to find ones that had sinks that were normal countertop height. LIsa A... I was encouraging you to bring your cutting board with you to the showroom as you mentioned in your OP, and actually put it in and take it out of the sinks you are testing to make sure it fits AND you have no problems doing that over and over again.... I have back and more issues and am very conscious of the body motions I am doing in the kitchen right now. Now, which one of us mentioned obsessive?!! As I have mentioned elsewhere... we thought we were just replacing the dishwasher and well, here we are doing a full remodel. DH has been very nice and supportive as the cost keeps skyrocketing on this project, so I am being very conscious of making sure this is as close to fully functional for us as I can possibly make it along with looking gorgeous and being environmentally friendly as I can make it.

Well, I can get a brand new one for $85, so that might be the best option after all.

Or, don't use a grid at all. I do not. I found the grid to be one more thing to clean, with nooks and crannies where crud collects, and silverware slipped through the holes anyway. I know people like them, but also people do not, so it is personal preference. Try going grid-free for a few days and see how you like it.

Edited to add: just noticed this thread is 1 month old, so not sure if @Michael K. has resolved his grid issue by now or not.
