Living Room Rug, Throw Pillows Colors
Hi,
I have a living room where I'm trying to find a suitable 8x10 or 9x12 rug that would work with my light grey sofa and turquoise curtains. I also have a cream colored Eames-like lounge chair.
I'd like to potentially make the rug more neutral instead of having to try and match it with the curtains. This way I can use pops of color with some throw pillows. I don't have to use the throw pillows in the photos, but the curtains and sofa and chair will not change. I also have the opportunity to add large, medium and small paintings lamps and side/end tables.
All pics are attached of the current curtains, sofa and lounge chair. Any suggestions for this setup for carpet, throw pillows, painting, end tables or a general color scheme direction?

last yearlast modified: last yearThe aqua draperies are bold and the gray loveseat is heavy looking, so I think you do need a rug with both tones to correlate the two.

Throw Pillow Designs to Match Rug?
Comments (8)Do a mix of paisley, "global" and striped prints. Avoid harsh geometric prints unless there is not deep contrast in the colors used on the geometric pillow. For example, you could do geometric prints if the colors on the pillow were taupe and off-white but not if the colors were red and off-white. I would also consider incorporating the blueish color from the rug in some of the pillows. It's a beautiful color! With the dark floors and dark couch, I would keep the pillows on the lighter side instead of going with deep solid colors. Comments (10)The old rug *was* actually blue and looked nice when we first got it. It faded terribly to that blander color because the room has a lot of windows and skylights and it was one of the cheapest wool rugs on rugsusa. If we ever invest in a nice rug in the future I think I’m going to have to get some UV protection on the windows. I just checked Crate and Barrel and saw a beautiful green pillow that was less sage-y than I was worried about but unfortunately it is silk, dry clean only and I have a 6 year old, a 4 year old, and a 1 year old... Comments (9)I have a tray for the ottoman that acts as a coffee table. Lighting I have no idea maybe another floor lamp somwhere. There is no overhead lighting here. I have been looking at shag rugs for two mos and am leaning towards light grey or silver but still not sure. Been looking for vibrant orangey red pillows but havent found the exact shade I like yet. Comments (13)What does your husband have to say about the office? Does he like any of the colors/elements you have in there? If that's the new rug your getting in pic 3, that's the best source for your new colorway. Why not remove the mirror from the mantel since it only reflects the ceiling fan, and try your colorful painting in its place? See how he reacts to that injection of color. To continue in that vein, clear out the cabinet to the right, paint some luan or wallpaper some foam core cut to fit the backs of the shelves. Do you have any of that wallpaper from the office left over? Style the shelves with 1/3 books, 1/3 large decor items and 1/3 open space. Limit photos to a couple and not on the same shelf level. Put foot stands on the the smaller ones and set them on table tops, buffets, dressers or side tables throughout the house. Have you ever considered painting the fireplace satin black? Rugs are like art...subjective. I know which way you are leaning. I just have a different idea. That doesn't make me right and you wrong. For instance were this my room, my furniture, the drapes, I'd be buying:
