To hang or not to hang (my pots)?

Jensen Yancey
last year

I do a lot of cooking, and our kitchen cabinets are really stuffed to the gills. One of the things that my partner has brought up is liking the looks of a hanging pot rack. I'm a little skeptical, because I'm worried that it makes the space too cluttered and if there's anything hanging, I'd really prefer for it to be a larger, softer light. The current lighting setup is just a bunch of small lights on the ceiling, it's harsh and everything casts a shadow in every direction, I hate it.

I think they could theoretically be hung on the wall where the picture is, but that's kind of a "must stay in the room" piece for me, and I think it might look a little odd if it moves to under the windows. I also don't really like the idea of the pots and pans sitting right next to the dinner table.

So what say you, people of Houzz? Put a small hanging rack over the sink? Add some pendant lights? Both? Neither?
