People remodel RVs all the time, from popup tent trailers to truck campers to 5ers. Some are more successful than others. :) You can replace the upholstered furniture, but not cheaply. (Most new RVs have vinyl/faux leather these days, so it IS available; I don't know what took so long!) I'd look into slipcovers to get some color in.

Thank you. I will likely install residential couches. There just is no reason for RV goods in that. As for pics and such, I just edited the post to include home decorating. I wasn't sure where to find the right people. Regarding pics, is the PDF not good enough? Mine looks just the same. I am so frustrated that there really is not a simple solution here. I have been going back and forth between the original brochure and brochures of the newer ones because the design is nearly the same. Appears they now use wood window valences so I can make those. I also think I will add some glass frosting vinyl on the cabinet glass. So far, I really can't find a way around changing the wood color. I simply HATE that L shaped island. Makes the flow of the kitchen a no-go for me.

Have you considered using facebook groups? There are many that are specifically for updates and mods.

Can you recommend one? I honestly don't use them because it is too personal. People can see who you are, what you have, etc. But does seem like that is the trend.

Go visit rv.fixerupper on TikTok. She and her husband are professionals at this. They will prevent you from making mistakes and they sell the lists of materials that are successfully used in upgrading and remodeling 5th wheels. They are also on Instagram. rvfixerupper

My sibling has a DRV Executive Suite circa 2012. Similar layout, maybe longer? First thing I notice is window treatments. Their unit has no hard valances and side drapes as yours does - that would be an easy update & would open up the space. They don’t have carpet except maybe in bedroom but do have vinyl flooring in main area. Seems like the flooring needs to be able to manage the slides going in / out over it & when out, creating a seal in floor? Weight of materials should be considered too since 5th wheel is towed.

Yes, you are correct about slides having to track over flooring. As I work in the engineering world, I feel comfortable figuring out that concern. As well, the weight I would be adding would be so minor, and if you know anything about DRV's their chassis is literally the most robust in the industry. An extra few # won't be any issue.

Here is a facebook group. You can control and limit your personal info to your comfort zone. You may learn a lot just by looking amd not needing to post.

One source for a more updated interior layout and materials is the current models. I'd do light European Oak floors and matching cabinets. The flooring will be easy. Everyone has it. Getting matching cabinetry in the US will be more challenging. North American white Oak is a different species with more yellow and more open grain. Good luck. A Spanish cabinet company DOCA is one source.

I think there’s a lot you can do without investing too much money!

If I were updating this unit, I would start be removing the side drapes and superfluous upholstery such as skirting, valances, etc. I would have new glass cut to fit inside the doors that currently feature leaded glass. I would degloss and paint the silver metallic trim to make it recede. For cabinetry, I’d consider deglossing and painting certain areas to break up the overwhelming wood feel. Personally, I’d paint the front L section of the kitchen u. I see what you mean about the glow of that peninsula, but if you look at it as part of the U that creates the kitchen workspace, that configuration while tight does give you significantly more expansive counter surface for working and serving. I have used Heirloom Traditions all in one paint on some furniture pieces where I would be satisfied with less than a professional flawless result and have been happy with the finish on a few vase pieces that I’ve painted. It’s faster and easier than regular cabinet paint. You could remove the doors to paint outside the unit but many people paint doors in place. Id also paint the risers of the little steps up into the bedroom area, which would help the area look less choppy as the current carpet/wood does now. There are even formulas of paint designed to be used on upholstery which could help with some of the affixed panels that you might not want to tear out.

Newer updated style of dining chairs would be a great idea. There are lots of products and techniques that would allow you to remove some of the built in furniture pieces and use standard pieces.

Thank you Susanne. I think we are on the same page! I had thought about adding frosting film on the back of all the cabinent glass. I am curious what you were thinking as a 'replacement'? Also, I was planning to remove all the drape window valances and build top crown wood valances as that seems to be the trend on new ones. Thoughts?

Also, I notice the wallpaper boarder that is out of date. Do you think there is any chance of getting that off clean? If not, do you have a suggestion? I was thinking of going right over the top with something more modern. I 100% with the steps. What I notice on the newer ones is honor that aggressive 'contrast' of wood and color which just makes details pop better. That stairway area is just tooooo much wood tone!

And as I mentioned, I just cannot handle the flooring and I am very torn on what to do there. I am currently looking at carbon gray vinyl plank as I don't think any more wood tones should be used?

Don’t know what color Carbon Gray flooring is but I would prefer a light color as it is now. I’m happy to read @Susanne Woolley agrees with me about window treatments! Not sure about wood valances though - you might be able to get a valance same material as shades. And those shades are multi purpose, privacy but able to see out, total black out etc, right? I wondered if the carpet on steps was scrap cut to make steps less slippery & no carpet originially on them? Another thought I had was updating lighting if you’re so inclined. My sibling & husband changed their sconces out to beautiful colored glass ones & the light over the table is now a vintage white glass bowl light - their style is Arts & Crafts & vintage.But the sconces look gorgeous at night & like art during the day. The wallpaper - tricky. May be attached directly to wall panel. If you’re thinking updated wallpaper, I’d visit a wallpaper store. There are papers with no designs, just texture which would make a nice look. The glass door cupboards - I like idea of frosted film. Do the leaded embellishments come off? I’d remove them for cleaner look.

Oh, that lighting.....lmao. That was the VERY first thing I knew had to go. I plan to whip up some Solid Maple radiused planks with puck lights in them, then do the same but do 2-3 pendant lights extended down 2ft or so. I think this whole space is desperate for color. I want to do a pretty loud glass backsplash in kitchen. As for the leaded glass feature, I am not sure about removal, but oddly, even the newer ones have similar accents. I was hoping the frost films would calm them down enough.

I was absolutely on the path of textured wall paper. I think paint can only do so much so I was considering it to add another texture and depth rather than just paint. Since the walls already have it, going over them should not be much issue.

It really seems I am circulating the drain regarding changing the wood color. I spent hours in photoshop trying to tune the space up, but that wood color just has too much yellow, and not many places where I can throw accents to calm it down.

Well these pictures are all F'd up, but hopefully you can work with it. What I have realized is if I keep this camper, I simply cannot work with that wood color. I think it has yellowed over time, which is typical of old Urethane, and lost its pop. Subect to change but I am currently looking at 'aged barrel' by Mixwax in polyshades. I have already ripped off one of the pieces in the rig I can live without, for a test because I do not know what the stain/poly will do on this stuff. I am headed for dark. Whether I do more gray tones like I bought, or more brown, I want them dark, which will hopefully hide the brush work I have to do here.

The flooring pictured is what I propose, which is a rustic barnwood with plenty of gray and brown to be pretty neutral in the space. It is lighter to contrast the darker cabs.

C13 is the backspash I am eying for the very small area over the stove area. nearly all the stores materials were shades of brown, gray, or white. I am lookking for pop and that has unique shape and color without being too crazy. Like to get thoughts on that.

I have not decided on black or stainless hardware. I will have some stainless and black in the space. Obviously stainless would really pop against those darker cabs.

I still have not decided on the counter tops. I personally hate them but I might have to put a mean polish on them and call it good for now. I just can't waste my life reworking this camper, knowing I will get zero return on this. People expect it all for nothing in the camper world.

@James bob Are you doing this work for yourself or for updates & sale? I meant to ask earlier. About counters? Aren’t they Corian? Why not buff and shine? They should be indestructible & repairable if needs any repair. If they are light color, I’d leave that too for something light to balance the dark finishes you’re doing. On cabs, maybe it’s the urethane coating on them that’s yellowed & good sanding & recoat is what’s needed over full refinish?

Instead of Minwax products, which in my experience are junk, use General Finish products. they also have many videos of their site for skill development. The RV industry is not current in interior design, imo. For rec vehicles boats are. This Swan 55 is an example. All European Oak interior in choice of 3 tones. I'd choose light.
