Christmas eve, when my son and DIL are here, we are having crock pot chuck roast, potatoes, and carrots with roasted asparagus and fresh bread.

Christmas day, the wife and I will steam a couple nice sized clusters of snow crab, sear jumbo sea scallops, and shrimp that I still need to figure how to prepare. Sop up the garlic buttery goodness with left over bread.

Tonight we are having chicken and noodles over mashed potatoes with corn from my brother's garden.

All those carbs should help keep us warm!

ETA : forgot to mention the apple and cinnamon Pannenkoeken for Christmas morning.

Ham, Mac and cheese, and broccoli. Kiddo is likely to make yeast rolls with herbs. We did the turkey/dressing thing at Thanksgiving.

Ours is pretty pitiful. Tonight (my b-day), a pork tenderloin roast. Christmas Eve, proscuitto and melon followed by lobster ravioli. Christmas is meatloaf, my daughter's favorite meal (really), and she will take the leftovers home with her. The star of the show is the carrot cake that has about 20 ingredients and uses every bowl in the house. Making your own birthday cake should not be allowed, but I was almost afraid to go to the bakery, and no one was stepping up to the plate. There, I've aired my grievances!

I do a boneless roast pork loin in the crock pot. I'll have baked beans, rutabaga casserole, and broccoli casserole. I will make cookies and artisan bread. Usually someone brings mashed potatoes, someone else sweet potatoes and someone else a cake. I have a spread of cheeses, crackers, salami and cuke slices, carrot sticks and grapes before hand. Not fancy, but similar to what our parents always prepared so it's holiday for us.

For Xmas eve, we'll have DH's traditional fresh and smoked kielbasa and sauerkraut.

Fresh, roasted-over-the-fire oysters with the must have drawn butter and horseradishy sauces for dipping, saltines. Later, inside, we’re having baked ham, my so yummy wild rice, brown rice, vermicelli and chopped veggie pilaf, turnip puff, and roasted asparagus.

Our house guests, who will arrive from the Lowcountry of SC with the oysters, will concoct a thrilling dessert of some kind…..they are both amazing bakers.

I think we will do something Mexican on Xmas day, maybe chicken enchilada or something. Oyster stew will be on the menu sometime. That’s one of favorite foods of all time, simple, elegant, delicious.

faftris, I'm sorry you're baking your own cake ;) I used to work with a man who had my same birthday, and for years had a shared cake at the office. DH's sister later married him! And I'm still sharing my birthday cake - but have yet to bake my own.

We're having beef bourguignon this weekend at DH's request. A green salad, crusty bread that I will brown in the oven to soak up the juices from the beef. A mixed berry cobbler, berries from Costco since we didn't have a chance to pick our own wild berries this year.

I may put a meatloaf on for tonight, I have one in my freezer ;)

Annie - kielbasa and sauerkraut with tomatoes was a staple in DH's family too. It was served right alongside the turkey and ham. My FIL made his sauerkraut from cabbage grown in his garden. I have his homemade cabbage shredder but as a keepsake, I haven't made sauerkraut.

My husband is making shrimp and garlic in Alfredo sauce pasta today. That will do us for today and tomorrow.

Christmas my daughter and son in law come for the day. I like visiting so I just make chicken wings, pork bites and scalloped potatoes and raw veggies.

My daughter brings a rum cake decorated with fresh cranberries.💕

We have a ripsnorting game of Times Up and then take the dogs out for a frolic and then watch a movie.

morz, I was born the day before my mother’s birthday and my two younger sisters were born 2 and 4 days after her birthday. We had four birthdays in one week. When we were kids, my mother baked a cake for each one of us and gave each one of us a birthday party with our friends!

Prime rib and Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and creamed spinach. And horseradish! Nothing special planned for dessert but there are cookies, mince tarts and ice cream available.

This is for Christmas Eve. For Christmas Day, I fix a make-the-day-ahead brunch casserole, mimosas and then just snack the rest of the day on appetizers, leftovers and treats. No other cooking required!!

We have had a bit of change of plans as the in laws and our friends are all COVID positive which means both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are cancelled.

I have a 12+ lb. standing rib roast which I will most likely cut into steaks and freeze. As for the rest of the food, I will serve whatever cannot be cryovac'd and frozen and call it a day.

Christmas Eve supper: Tamales with my homemade red chile sauce, Caesar salad, green chile rollups, and a couple other appetizers. For dessert, biscochito cookies and hot coffee.

Christmas Dinner: Beef roast with a port wine reduction sauce, wild rice & pine nut pilaf, various appetizers including a wheel of brie topped with fig jam, wrapped in a puff pastry sheet and prosciutto and baked; roasted asparagus and wine. For dessert, my Winter-Spiced Molten Lava Cakes served with my vanilla, rum and candied ginger ice cream and coffee.

Christmas Eve is mostly appetizers and grazing, Christmas Day will be turkey, ham, spicy meatballs, perogies, mashed potatoes, gravy, carrots and salad. Various slices for dessert as well as apple pie. Fingers crossed for the pie pastry to turn out well - I'm making it in the food processor this time to avoid the "cardboard pie crust" effect!

For Christmas Eve, I am doing a modified version of the Feast of the 7 Fishes...

1> Small squids stuffed with oatmeal, Monterey jack cheese, capers and clams, baked

2> Scallop Sashimi with avocado, wasabi and sesame oil

3> Salmon filet, baked - haven't decided on the seasoning profile yet.

4> Brown rice, seasoned, not having decided on the seasoning profile. It will also include bok choy and spinach, mixed in.

December 25th: Whatever the hosts make (I will bring wine).

Christmas Eve, Rib roast in thyme, horseradish sauce, Yorkshire puddings, Brussels sprouts, endive, watercress and apple salad. Dessert, Christmas pudding.

Christmas day, normally it's goose, no luck on that, so basic turkey menu once again. Chestnut cream and chocolate Yule log for dessert.

Just 2 of us. We're making a New England version of cioppino for Christmas Eve - with only 5 fishes including some striped bass from our freezer that DH caught this summer in the bay. A fresh baguette from a local French boulangerie and yummy French butter.

Christmas morning we will have Bailey's in our coffee, a fruit salad and Pannetone. Our late afternoon main meal will be a small prime rib beef roast, horseradish sauce, decadent scalloped potatoes and green beans almondine with a good bottle of red. Some chocolate truffles for dessert later in the evening with some more Bailey's.

Keeping with family traditions, Christmas Eve will be shrimp with guacmole and fondue. Christmas day will be Eggs Benedict for brunch with a hot apricot dish and milk punch. Christmas dinner will be prime rib, twice baked potatoes, creamed spinach with a fruit salad and caramel cake.

Christmas Eve: Seven Fishes. Well only 4 fishes since there are just two of us this time. Shrimp, mussels, crab, and calamari.

Christmas Day: Ham, scalloped potatoes, pineapple bread pudding, green beans.

Christmas Eve, beef tenderloin, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole (not a holiday tradition for us but I’ve had a hankering, and I can assemble it a bit beforehand and just put it in the oven, so I can be out of dh’s way while he cooks the rest). and romaine ribbons salad. Walnut Glory Cake and risalamande (Danish rice pudding) for dessert.

Christmas Day we have brunch. This year, eggs benedict and fruit medley. and mimosas!

For Christmas night, we are having tomato soup (Campbell’s, with low-sodium V-8) and grilled cheese. It might be just DH and me, depending on who sticks around after presents and brunch.

Our Christmas Eve dinner won’t be till 7 I suppose, since DS#1 and his GF will be coming from her family, so that makes for a late evening. And so, Christmas Brunch might be a little later than usual, too, maybe noon. But those of us here at home will have coffee and cinnamon toast to tide us over till people wander in.

Ooh, seagrass reminds me to open my gift of Bailey’s first on Christmas morning, so I can add a splash to my coffee!

Always Rib roast. I coat the roast with crushed pepper corns and herbs. Wonderful flavor. Rare. I do courses. First is fish-baked sea scallops, soup is cream of artichoke with puree leeks. Then salad of sliced avocado and balsamic vinegar, With my roast I have some Asparagus with hollandaise because I have asparagus plates (and asparagus is green) plus pan roasted red potatoes. Pecan tart for desert. This is after breakfast of Brioche twice baked with brioche dipped in orange juice and coated with a crust of almond paste, thick sliced bacon (for the cats) with strawberry conserve and Champagne.

Your menus are delicious. I love how you decribe the dishes. A fine restaurant cannot do better.

Christmas Eve- antipasto, calamari salad, shrimp cocktail, crab cakes, flounder, shrimp creole, lobster tails, lobster claws with spaghetti. I also make a blue crab sauce since one of the grands is allergic to most shellfish and lobster. I might make some kind of rice dish with the blue crab also. The two large pots share the bodies and claws of dozen lobsters which DH cut up. The stuffed calamar, the blimps my husband's specialty, is simmering in the smallest pot on the left. Libations will be red wine, white wine, proseco and the every popular Baileys. The grands look forward to Christmas punch.

Christmas Day- whatever my daughter serves.

We are having Prime Rib Roast. To keep the dinner low carb"ish". our sides will be pureed cauliflower made with sour cream and garlic, gravy or au jus, roasted carrots, roasted Brussels sprouts, mashed turnip. I am going to make sugar free orange cranberry sauce using Allulose instead of sugar. I was going to have a baked potato but I decided not to and instead I am going to treat myself to 3 Walker's shortbread cookies my one and only Christmas treat. Back on track the next day. I have lost 34 pounds since September and want to keep it going. During the holidays I plan on making homemade eggnog.

Some day I’ll do a Christmas in Connecticut dinner. Roast goose bernoise with walnut stuffing…

Christmas Day Chinese!

CherryFizz, good for you for sticking to your low-carb diet. i am on the same but i know by tomorrow night i will be "carb tired". but back on track on Monday!

Christmas Eve: we do the traditional7 fishes: shrimp cocktail, mussels (white), stuffed calamari in red gravy served over linguine, flounder, scallops, crab imperial & smelts.

Christmas Day: breakfast with the kids: creme brulee french toast, scrambled eggs, bagels and berry fruit salad. dinner just DH and me: chicken parm with ravioli- carb load, ugh. i will just eat 2 and salad with it!

and of course we are flooded with homemade cookies& pizzele's from friends and family, so no baking for me!

We are not Italian so Seven Fishes is not familiar to us. I notice there’s not a lot of fish in those menus, more seafood, crustaceans, etc. Is that the tradition?

We’re going to do a ham, homemade scalloped potatoes (step aside Betty Crocker, first time for me to try making my own), string beans, rolls, cranberry sauce. Yes, I know that cranberry sauce doesnt really go with the list, but it’s my must. Apple pie and homemade cookies and assorted sweet breads I received as gifts from work. I may also make custard.

Since it is in the low 80s here for Christmas Eve and Christmas, we will be cooking outdoors.

Today I am making smoked chicken and will have that with red potatoes, and a green bean dish with mushrooms and onion. For dessert: poached pears that I will make indoors.

For Christmas I will make Neapolitan pizza in our Ooni pizza oven. I have a very good basil plant in the back yard that has plenty of nice leaves on it.

Bacon wrapped stuffed turkey (It JUST arrived!) Sprial ham cooking in the smoker outside. Mashed potatoes. Green Beans/Carrots and Onion roasted. Coleslaw on the side. Pineapple Delight for dessert. Oh! I can't forget the home made dinner rolls...

Tonight it will be takeout - trying to chase down tamales (not that easy in my town, alas), but more likely will be Asian -

Christmas dinner will be vegetarian spinach tomato lasagne from the old Greens cookbook with homemade noodles and a pork loin on the side (recipe TBD) roasted in the new le crueset braiser. This is a real departure from decades of our classic Christmas dinner of duck (formerly goose, but duck is tastier) and many sides, cooking the day away . Times are changing, just the 4 of us ! It's been a hectic couple of weeks with weather, as I know many are dealing with, best wishes! My husband is digging out a yule log as I type.

For many, many years when we were growing up and the beyond, our family went to ’Christmas breakfast’ at my paternal grandmother’s home. After the passing of most of our parents, we discontinued this ritual. This year, both of my brothers live nearby (one moved here a little over a year ago) and i have one niece and her family living here too. So we decided to get together today for brunch. One of my brothers planned to host but he tested positive for Covid last Tuesday, so we proceeded with plans at our home. We were sad he couldn't make it but will get together again soon and do it all over again for his benefit.

We had our traditional eggs, sausage, bacon, cheese grits, homemade biscuits, jellies and jams, fruit, plus bloody mary’s and mimosas and hot cocoa for the little ones. So yummy.

Tomorrow we will go to our daughter’s for pot roast (DGD’s request) sides of potatoes and veggies and apple pie. Plus whatever snacks we have thrown together.

We typically have grilled filet mignon for Christmas with special sides, but with the arctic blast we changed plans. I'll turn one of my marinara sauces from the summer harvest into a vodka sauce served over TJ's fusilli corti bucati pasta (so cute!). Spicy Italian sausage and steamed green beans with lemon zest will round out the meal. I'll bake bread earlier in the day. I made Tiramisu today for tomorrow's dessert.

SamKaren, we can be alone together! My DD has to work (night shift) and I have no other family near - and none that I want to risk driving in this weather to see either. (We will get together on Monday, hoping to go to the zoo lights if it isn't too cold, and get take-out from one of the myriad ethnic restaurants we want to try.)

I won't mind being alone, and I will play all of my Christmas CDs, watch any church service and special music on the TV, maybe start the book my DD gifted me on Friday, and eat whatever strikes my fancy - I have shrimp, salmon, and steak in the freezer, cranberries and walnuts ready to bake into a pie, and a marzipan stollen (which I love) just waiting for me to overindulge.

If the temperature moderate, and it looks safe, I may put the Yaktrax on my boots and try to take a walk.

We gave up beef.....then I purchased a rib eye roast. 🎅 and so on.....the pumpkin cheese cake is chilling. Hubby came down with a killer cold, did not test positive for covid or have a fever. By tomorrow I don't know if he'll be able to taste anything...
