Newport Brass = Expensive Garbage and Why I LOVE Moen and Kohler
Comments (49)We bought a new construction house in 2008 that has all Newport Brass fixtures and decorations. - 5 bathrooms, a three sink kitchen, and 2 wet bars. And I mean it is all Newport Brass - sink handles and faucets, towel bars, toilet bowl handles, etc. And here is what has broken, starting in less than one year: bathroom tub diverter handle, kitchen sink mixer cartridge, shower head, bathroom sink faucet connector, another shower head, shower temperature mixer valve, and another bathroom sink faucet connector! The parts are insanely expensive to replace, it is difficult to make sure that you have the correct model, and even harder to make sure you have the correct finish. The most frustrating thing (and why I am writing this up) is because one of the broken bathroom faucets is now discountinued, and I am stuck with the a bathroom that has a dozen plus Newport Brass installations that I will not be able to match. Ever! The "help" that I have received from Customer Service is a joke. They cant help identify part numbers or finishes, and dont seem particularly interested in the fact that there stuff keeps breaking. I have taken to proactively switching out parts, especially shower heads, with stuff on Amazon and which I feel is better quality and much, much cheaper. Do not dare install this overpriced garbage in your house!...See MoreLamps for the Buffet
Comments (104)Oh my. I can't believe there are so many responses to this thread. Yes, that is the parrot lamp that squirrel PS'ed in. I like it, but it's not my money or my house. I'm glad you are thinking of going to the consignment store funky recommended. Make sure to bring along any pics/swatches, digital camera and a tape measure as you'll never know what you'll find....See MoreWho makes adjustable width bridge faucet in antique brass?
Comments (3)Newport Brass models 9451, 9452, 9453, and 9454 are all adjustable bridge faucets and come in antique brass. Might be more than you want to spend but antique brass isn't one of the "in finishes" right now so it can be VERY hard to find and the few companies that are still making it seem to charge a premium price. I know b/c I spent untold HOURS looking for antique brass faucets. I finally found them for my bathrooms (at SignatureHardware.com) but they didn't carry any antique brass kitchen faucets either. I finally gave up on finding one for the kitchen - that I could afford anyway - and went with an ORB kitchen faucet. And, I wasn't looking for an adjustable model which will limit your options even further. Here is a link that might be useful: Link showing the NB models mentioned above...See MoreRohl kitchen faucet? California Faucets kitchen faucet instead?
Comments (60)I ended up here, because I'm redoing my kitchen and trying to make a decision about the faucet. I have various faucets throughout my house from Kohler, Moen, Restoration Hardware, and Newport Brass. I think the Restoration Hardware fixtures are made by Newport Brass, because we had to call them when we needed to replace. We've had them from 10-12 years, so I don't know the styles or even if they are made. Almost all are polished nickel, and the Kohler and Moen are always spotless, laundry room and bathroom, respectively. I'm not crazy about the pull down sprayer on the Kohler. The Moen Showcase (do they still make this line?) is in the bathroom, and I love it so much, because I can just pour water over it and it will dry spotless. It's amazing. It is wall mount, and I wish I had it in every bathroom. Because of my success with Moen, when I needed a faucet for my kitchen, I bought an inexpensive (relative to all the other faucets I have) Moen at Home Depot. It is the only non polished nickel faucet I have. It is stainless steel, still looks brand new (10 years+), and the pull down sprayer works wonderfully. Unfortunately, I'd never buy fixtures from Restoration Hardware again. They spot like crazy. The Newport Brass are slightly better, but they also spot. I'm looking at Kohler and Moen for my new kitchen, but the choices are limited in polished nickel. Now I'll look at California Faucets, too, but I'll skip Rohl, since someone mentioned the polished nickel spots so much....See Moresuppendahl
