Comments (6)My mom has a Kirby, I'd like to get my hands around the neck of that door to door salesman ;) It actually cleans well, and isn't quite as bad once turned on and running, but just try to pick it up or move it unplugged. The Kirby sales tactics are another story. When going to her house to help her with some housework, my Oreck makes the 4 hours round trip with me. I've got two Orecks and haven't found anything to dislike about them. They are actually my second and third, I used the first one about 14 years, replaced it rather than spend the money on updating parts. I have a new XL (purchased from an Oreck store on sale) at the office end of my house where there is carpet and then tile hallway, laundry room. At the living and bedrooms end, I have a year old Oreck Magnesium that I hadn't planned to upgrade to, but DH tried it in the store and loved the impressive maneuverability, the swivel and even lighter weight. He doesn't vacuum often if at all, but wanted it, and it was also on sale (I think marked down $100). I do enjoy it over the XL, and now seem to have a utility model for working type floors, and a more advanced model for the more expensive flooring ;) I have the Oreck floor steamer and hand vacs too....guess you can see I've been satisfied with the product line....See Moreneed recommendations for vacuum cleaner with hepa filter
Comments (6):) third vote for the Dyson- I loathe vacuums. always have. never saw the point in them, honestly- I used a bissel carpet sweeper (you know, the no-tech brush thing) on rugs and took them outside to shake, and wiped everything else down with a damp cloth to deal with dust... we dog-sit for two rottweilers that belong to my BIL, and the place is so 'doggy' that I'm on benadryl from the moment I walk in the door...so, last time, when I walked in and my eyes didn't promptly swell shut, I knew something was up... the Dyson 'animal' was what's up. hair, dander, dust, everything...I even used the brush attatchment, and vacuumed the ROTTIES! bought one three weeks later with the very last of the wedding money, and have used the thing to death. under and behind the fridge, the mattresses, the pillows, behind the radiators, between the bannisters... love it, love it, love it....See MoreAny recommendations for new vacuum cleaner
Comments (13)Last year, on the recommendation of Raven and my brother (both of whom I trust), I bought a Shark Lift-Away Navigator Pro. I liked it so much that I decided to get another one for another level of the house. This time, I got the Shark Rotator Professional Lift-Away 3-in-1 vacuum. It cost a little more, but I love it (it even has the tools to clean out my sewing machines). I've had Kirby, Kenmore, Hoover, Bissell, Electrolux, etc., but the Shark is my favorite! I've had back and knee surgery, so I appreciate the fact that the Shark is easy to maneuver and not heavy....See MoreTired of buying new vacuum cleaners - Suggestions Wanted
Comments (36)WIshiwereintheup, I am still using the bare floor tool, extension hose and other extension tools from my first vacuum -- a Hoover bought about 45 years ago. It came with them -- in those days few upright vacs were designed with a hose that comes off for tool use; the extension had to be plugged into the unit when I wanted to use it. I've jerry rigged various adapters to allow them to be used with later vacuums. They are perfectly good; the bare floor accessory and extra length hose for my current vacuum was ridiculously expensive. I don't remember what happened to that Hoover. I think maybe when my DH used it to vacuum the garage without a bag in it (I clearly remember that!), that ruined it, but not sure. It would have been about 20 years old then and still a good vac....See MoreHelen
