Two of the questions in drewsmaga's post are easily answered.

4/ The "W"- back in the day, the letter "U" was written as a "V". This evolved from Roman inscriptions, a "V" is a lot easier to bang out with a chisel than a curvy "U". It was still pronounced as "U". Eventually the discrete "U" was adopted.

2/ People did not evolve from monkeys. People and monkeys evolved from a common ancestor. One branch of the family became people, a different branch became monkeys.

Re people evolving from monkeys as colleenoz writes. When my 6th grade teacher asked me that (in a triumphal, gotcha voice) in the mid 1950s, I had to explain that to him. Just as an aside, his initials were A.P.E.
