i thought i was the only person left on the planet who still writes checks. nice to know there's someone else out there!

the chore i dislike the most is cleaning the window tracks. it's all sand out here and any time the wind blows, sand winds up in the tracks. if i let it go too long, it builds up and takes forever so it's something i do once a week, sometimes more.

I was wondering if people still reconcile check books

. We don't write many checks,but we do have a fair amount of automatic payments and deposits so we do reconcile. We also reconcile the Credit Card statements which is really where the action is these days.

I don't think I dislike it most, but Nina, I agree about the window tracks. We got new windows shortly after we moved here, and I do try to keep them pretty clean. It's inredible the gunk and dirt that gets there in a matter of a week or two.

I think what I dislike most, is washing the floor. I do it often, but I don't like how dirty it gets in no time or at least doesn't look freshly done in very little time. ( have a drooly dog and crumb maker DH)

Most hated for me is grocery shopping. Next comes changing beds. Both are

easy..but I hate them. Grocery shopping most, I think.

I agree, grocery shopping and putting the groceries away. Cleaning the inside of the refrigerator. Cleaning the basement.

There are so many tasks I do because I want the result, not the pleasure of doing them, that it's hard to pick just one. I'm sure anything excretory is up there such as cleaning the johns or the kitty boxes. Cleaning the shower is another...

I really hate dealing with mouse traps. We don't have mice in our house but they find their way into the attic.

One chore I detest which, I suppose thankfully we are getting too old to do, is splitting wood. I'm still able to swing a sledge and use a wedge which I don't mind. But I really don't like using the mechanical splitter as it's so noisy and the work is heavy and relentless.

Cleaning the replacement vinyl window frame side channels (tracks) is by far my most disliked. They collect grunge, including dead bugs, small leaves & other tree debris, cobwebs, and just plain dirt, and it is difficult to get that stuff out - I have to use the narrowest toothbrush, a wooden skewer, and my pump garden sprayer to work it loose then flush it out.

I only do it twice a year, unless I've had the windows open a lot (since my neighbor who sits outside and smokes moved in, they aren't open a lot anymore).

Hmm, pruning the boxwood makes me regret planting it.

I was never too fond of cleaning the litter box either.

Considering how frequently I put off doing so, I'd have to say unloading the dishwasher and folding and putting away the finished laundry. Also changing the sheets and turning the mattress. I have a king sized bed and not overly large bedroom so this is always a major logistics chore. And I can't manage the mattress all by myself so that has to wait until my sister or step daughter come to visit.

And I am not a big fan of cleaning the litter box either :-)

Our house has 8-over-8 windows. Old, so not removeable grills. I wouldn’t mind cleaning picture windows, but these are nothing but panes, and a pain!

My other least favorite is washing floors. I don’t mind damp mopping or using the steam mop, but they still have to be washed. Especially the tiled floors, and the kitchen has wide grout and the tiles have a curve down at the edges so the grout is lower, and is best washed on hands and knees with a toothbrush and lots of rinsing.

I also hate bill-paying and otherwise dealing with household finances. Fortunately, DH is excellent at it and has almost a sense of glee when he does it.

Any type of cleaning I have to force myself to do. My mom made it a major trauma that I have not been able to tuck into a nice safe box.

Like it or not if you have a bank account your money is online whether you like it or not. It is your option also to use or not to use but it is there.

My money may be online with the bank, but I don't want to have to deal with computer crap to access it. It's a tiny local bank with one branch that was established within the last 15 years. I don't use an ATM either. Or have a cell phone (main reason is they don't work where I live unless you run it through the computer, and when the power goes out, you don't have a phone. Not good. And I can't afford both a cell and a landline.). OK, I'm a Luddite too. But I can milk a cow, kill a chicken and have it ready for the pot in less than 15 minutes, and I have great gardens, both veggie and landscaping. And I drive a shift.

Cleaning the oven and refrigerator

Cleaning the fridge tops my list.

I still write checks and I am also not good at balancing my check book. I always round up amounts from checks so that I don't have to deal with pennies, and so my account never matches the bank's.

I dislike anything that requires me to stoop, and that includes picking things up from the floor or accessing lower cabinets, which is why I like upper cabinets so much more. I do not mind getting a stepladder to reach things in high cabinets - so much easier for me than getting something near the floor.

I strongly dislike vacuuming leaves from the patio around the pool. I'm not fond of scooping leaves out of the pool either, but I do it when I want to use the pool.

I like shopping, but I don't like driving to the store. When I lived in San Francisco, I could walk to stores, which I liked much better.

- Vacuuming, since DH talked me into replacing my wonderful Shark upright vac with that X%#! Meile canister vac. I hate canister vacs, so he does the vacuuming now!

- Constantly having to clean the gazillion spots off our miles of too shiny kitchen counters! Ugh!

- I actually love grocery shopping, doing laundry and folding clothes, though.

All of the above.

Oh yes - cleaning the toilet and bathroom has to be top of the list now that I no longer have a cat's litter box to deal with.

And like gardengal, I must also hate folding and putting away laundry, since I rarely do it 😄

I hate it all plus laundry. I like washing windows and laundering curtains, cleaning cupboards - things where the effect lasts for more than a few hours!

Bathrooms have to be the worst, due to all the gymnastics it takes to clean. I hate changing bed sheets, but am always so thrilled with a clean, smooth bed.

Vacuuming and washing windows are my worst. I actually like folding clothes and putting them away. I used to hate ironing so I fixed that by not doing it anymore. The ironing board sits covered in dust in the basement.

Dusting is my least favorite chore because it's never-ending. I can dust a surface in the morning and it will have dust on it by afternoon because I live with open windows year-round.

Any kind of floor care. Vacuuming, mopping or sweeping. I dislike bending down to the dirt.

I wish I could recall which movie it's from (Reality Bites???), but this discussion brought to mind a scene where a woman's complaining about how hard it is to clean around a toilet, and states the design must have come from men, to make women get down on their knees 😄

It isn't required often. It's so simple, I don't hire it out to a plumber. Taking apart and cleaning bathroom sink pull-up drain stoppers and tub drains when they start to run slow.

At this stage of my life I'm tired of it all. It is never ending. The only thing I don't mind is grocery shopping.

People still have chequebooks? I got 25 cheques when I bought my house 27 1/2 years ago. I still have 20 of them. Who takes them anymore? I pay all my bills online. Nobody here accepts them anymore with debit cards and online bill payments.

But to your subject line: what do I hate doing the mose. Pretty much all of it. Once I get started I get it done though. I mostly do not like doing housework period when my husband is home. I get a LOT more done when he's not. And he's ALWAYS home now since his work related accident forced him into retirement. Bathrooms have to be the worst. They're filthy dirty even when they appear clean. Hairs on everything. I wish I could afford someone to come in and do a good deep clean. But I would have to clean before they came to clean... hahaha

Oh wow - I hear you on the hubby thing. It's so much easier to get cleaning done when I'm home alone.

The ones I have to do all by myself haha. I love doing the housework as a team or a group. Much more fun especially with good music or a good show in the background.

I seriously dislike taking the laundry down the stairs and putting it in the washer. I don't mind if the laundry is already downstairs doing it but for some reason taking it down the stairs is a real dislike of mine. Not so much taking it up the stairs. Go figure.

I can't imagine dealing with places that don't accept checks. Every place here--stores, restaurants, courthouse to pay taxes, insurance companies, post office, whatever-- accepts checks and so do all utilities. I send checks by USPS to the charities I support. The system still works fine.

I wish I could afford someone to come in and do a good deep clean. But I would have to clean before they came to clean... hahaha

Carol, you can get wall mounted toilets, which will make cleaning much easier. I cannot get this because they will not ship to California, but I think there are others that I could get, if I wanted to.

I noticed these a lot in Europe.

I treat myself twice a year to a professional deep clean, once in the spring and once just before Christmas. It costs about 200.00 each time but I don't spend a lot on hair or nails or clothes or eating out so it is my splurge - just for me. I love coming home once it's done and admiring all the sparkling clean surfaces!

I hate bill paying so much, that once I became debt-free, all utilities are on autopay. My varied spending, gas, going out to eat, etc. are on the credit cards. I watch that daily. That's as close as I get to balancing a checkbook.

Least favorite chore? Painting anything. I hate the cleanup

I'd love that, Lars, but to have a wall mounted toilet, don't you need the pipes to be in the wall?

We have terrazzo floors, with the drain embedded underneath - thinking that would entail ripping the floor up.

Dusting. All the gyrations up and down to clean every.little.thing drives me crazy. Fortunately my housekeepers do a decent job every 2 weeks but I have to do baseboards on occasion and check the DR chairs before company.

Cleaning the outside of windows and the tracks, and the patio and porch furniture after yellow pollen season here. We have to put away the cushions or else those would be impossibly dirty too.

I’m in Lars’ camp re checkbook resolution. I keep track of my transactions in a register and resolve those via online banking about every couple of days or so to ensure transactions are correct. Almost everything is auto-pay or I can pay electronically. I don’t balance to the penny just as long as it’s close.

Lars reminded me that I am sick and tired of sweeping leaves and other tree debris off my patio. It seems that the wind always shoves the stuff into the awkard corners, and as soon as I have it done, it needs it again. And I don't even own the trees that are shedding on it!
