The best cavity wall insulation? Polystyrene beads?

Hi, I would like to insulate a cavity wall with with eiher polystyrene beads, or an expanded clay product called (in Spain) "arlita" - not sure if the English is arlite or Leca? "Arlite" is also used in concrete.I'm a bit concerned about the possibility of dampness caused by cavity insulation, and I read that "arlita" has a high water absorption rate, whereas Polistyrene has little or no water absorption. But, I'm wondering whether having the ability to absorb water might actually be beneficial? I mean, as a dampness block in winter, and in summer it might dry out? About 10 years, or more, ago, I put high water absorbing beads, very densely packed, called Vermiculite in a cavity wall, and I have seen no evidence of dampness. Thanks for any help.
