Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige
Comments (3)We bought a new construction spec home in Fall 2007. The builder used Accessible Beige as the main wall and ceiling color. The home was painted by the time we saw it for the first time. With respect to the above poster- It's not all gone yet, but I am working on it. Can't stand it. Here is why- It's not beige enough to be beige and not gray enough to be gray. It is right in between but not in a good way. It sucks the light out of a room. The home is "cozy" to begin with (not overwhelmed with natural light) but what is strange is that we have used colors with the same or lower LRVs to paint over it and in every case the room came "alive" once the Accessible Beige was gone. Just a dreadful color....See MoreHas anyone here painted a family room Sherwin Williams Rainwashed
Comments (11)CarolT924, I don't have the Whole Wheat up yet and I won't really have rooms where the colors can be easily viewed together as I don't really have an open floor plan. So I can't speak to your question with actual experience. I have some rooms painted Comfort Gray and a large board painted with the Whole Wheat. When I hold those colors up against each other, I personally like the combo. Comfort Gray is fairly close in hue to Quietude but with more gray. Can you get a Color to Go sample and paint as much of the wall as you can in an area that butts up against the Whole Wheat shades? To get a good rendition of the Quietude, be sure to prime the wall before putting on the sample. The samples really aren't paint and don't cover very well. If you love Rainwashed, you will love Quietude. But if Quietude is a little more saturated than you want, you might want to check out Comfort Gray. Sounds dull, but it's really a very nice shade and very versatile....See MoreSherwin Williams made an error with paint color mix/Should I repaint?
Comments (32)Double thumbs up to Lori for sharing a lot of good knowledge on color science. Some of the regional paint companies will have their paint chips organized very similarly because they are part of a trade group that creates the chipsets for them. I'm not sure if Dunn-Edwards is in one of this organizations though. Adrienne, I don't see any harm in trying to get the offending area repainted. It sounds to me like someone used the wrong formula, on that second color, or the database came up with a match and that second formula was used for some reason. I have some insight into the paint side of this. There is a database of tint formulas for all of the colors on the chip racks, as well as a way to match color samples that the customer sends in. Humans usually check these databases to make sure the formulas make sense. The formulas are also optimized to use less expensive tints. 90% of the time, the customer wants some form of white, gray or beige, so the paint is typically tinted with some combination of black, red oxide, yellow oxide, or raw umber. Magenta and gold/medium yellow is typically avoided if possible due to higher cost and lower durability (sadly, brighter organic pigments don't last as well as the oxides)....See MoreWant a lighter shade of Accessible Beige by Sherwood Williams
Comments (2)When I made color selections for the walls in our new house, I really wanted an off white, but it was not an option. I chose Accessible Beige as it was the lightest beige that our builder offered. Our trim, doors and ceilings are painted Extra White, and our cabinetry is white which looks beautiful with it and provides nice contrast. As with any color, AB will look different in various rooms depending on the room's exposure, amount of light it gets and the colors you put with it. I love AB in the east and south rooms of our house. However, in one west bedroom with one small window, one bedroom on the north side of our house, and one hallway with no windows, it is a little dark for my preferences, even though I am decorating with light neutrals and whites. I am thinking of either re-painting those rooms Aesthetic White, which is a much lighter version of AB, or perhaps leaving an accent wall in AB and painting the remaining walls in some version of off white. I have not tried the 25% or 50% lightening, but I hope this helps with some other options....See Moreflopsycat1
