this year i threw all my old squash seeds in the ground. i do only vertical gardening. i had a squash vine that survived borers, had loads of vines on the fence but fruited late. they look like a very large delicata ( 10-12" yellow with green stripes cylinders) altho i don't remember buying them. now there is something boring tiny holes in them ! i haven't had this problem before. sometimes the squash exudes a thick clear gel through the hole. should i harvest now or hope no bugs are feasting inside ?!? i planted around june 5 and am in zone 6, southern Ct. the stems are not woody yet.

Same as plllog here… I used to split my pumpkin or squash, remove seeds, cut into hunks, peel the hunks, then cook them on the stovetop. Then I learned to just split it in half, remove seeds, and roast with the cut side down until soft… the flesh is so easy to scoop out with a spoon then, and much tastier with any caramelization from roasting!
