A circular dining room/angled kitchen - seeking advice/thoughts
Comments (32)I think the attempt at a colonial look just does not mesh with the organic modern look it also had. I know it was done often as well as with the Spanish look (stucco, beams, etc...), but I just don't care for it. I think you could bring it forward into a more 70s natural look. Keep the ceiling and the slate floor, and try to work in clean elements and curves. Using raised panel doors and those hinges just did not look great when new, so to recreate would be period appropriate, but a mistake. I think a retro modern kitchen and vibe would make the most sense. Like noted above, you can use regular cabs under a curved counter. I could see it looking groovy with vertical grain veneer cabs, some retro color accessories and modern art. You can do an older style in a fresh way. There is no need to be a slave to someone else's vision for it, whether the original owner/architect, or some future buyer. If you added curves to your pix from 15:42 today, that would be quite nice. I am not sure you should whitewash your wood, but it is not a bad option. I would hate to see it get painted though. The workmanship and lines of it are really nice and that would sully it. I don't see too many painted surfaces as working in your house. I can picture grass cloth wallpaper and maybe some white walls. Certainly, you should skip crown molding.... Some funky table lamps in chrome would fit in as would some plants and macrame. I'd try to go for an ahead of its time look from years ago.......See Moreseeking design advice for off center fireplace and tv
Comments (2)I'd create two separate areas, yes one, smaller one, next to the windows-two armchairs with a table between them. probably would go with something legged..more visually light, as to obscure windows the less..or give an impression I'm obscuring them the less:) another, bigger one, for TV watching..a sofa..an angled chair on the right much like you have now, but looking smaller..I might consider doing smth different since several chairs in the room..maybe a rocking chair? I might also go for an ottoman instead of a coffee table-can serve as additional seating if needed. I might also find a garden stool as one of the side tables-again, opportunity for additional sitting, if a lot people use a room at once. Round shapes will also break the lines of all the rectangular furniture, so I'd definitely take it into account when shopping. I also might do something patterned to add interest..say two armchairs, or an ottoman, or a chair in bigger sitting area.. Rugs would help to delineate different zones, so another idea to consider. Pretty room. Once you get your balance right-full of potential to be very cozy....See MoreSeriously design-challenged woman seeking advice!
Comments (12)houssaon, would it work to have the window trim in the current shutter color? The reason I ask is because exterior colors (paint colors are from a stucco collection. picked because lower half of house is stucco) aren't really modern. Probably hard to tell online but the shutters are more of a sandstone, field is more of a cream & roof is shades of browns. Since I can't trim out the bottom windows I'm wondering if the dark trim on top windows might look odd....See More**Seeking Design Advice for Renovation Project**
Comments (7)The brick FP as is will remain a nice tie in to the adjoining room brick floor -assuming that’s staying too. The inspo pic for shelving is good. Will you want or need closed shelving for bottom part for hiding the tech stuff? What’s behind the doors on left side of FP? Can they be refinished or changed to match the new mantel & shelving color?...See MoreHU-187528210
