Measurements of the room:
11’8” wide (from door to opposite window)
The wall with the door on it is 6’
From the bar overhang to the window behind the table is about 9’4”

Remove the corner cabinet and use a bench under the window opposite the door with a longer and wider table and your chairs. Trestle or pedestal tables usually work well for accessing bench seats.

Your picture reminds me of poltergeist! I do agree that benches at a trestle table will work better. Or a bench on one side and chairs on the others. If you want to stay with all chairs, I think you need chairs that are much smaller both in measurement and appreance than what you currently have. I think the corner shelving unit needs to go no matter what. It is going to feel a bit crowded no matter the set up and you'd be wise to just have a table and seating in this area.

If you do decide on an entire new set, I'm wondering if you could get a rectangle, make sure it's not too wide and place it vertical instead of horizontal?

I am not a fan of bench seating.

I’m definitely thinking new set. I’m not a fan of the orangey color of this one especially in combination with the floors. I’m just struggling to picture what would look good.

I really dislike bench seating . Do you have a DR? I agree you need a different table but I would still do a pedestal base . . How old are the kids I see one booster seat . If you have a DR for more formal eating it might be okay to have some seats at the island and the rest at a table for more casual eating. We found our kds ate breakfast at differnt times and so lunch was at school or at the counter and we ate dinner in the DR. So a bit more info would be good,

We do have a bar with 3 barstools. Sometimes my big kids will sit up there but we eat a lot of meals together so we really need a solid 7 seats at this table. We have a dining room but it has a rug under so not great for kids. We use it for holidays and for homework. Kids are 11, 10, 6, 2 and 1. So 2 of them are in a strapped in chair of some sort (right now it’s 1 booster and 1 hook on high chair)

I would do a 72" x 42" table, with a pedestal or trestle base. (And smaller chairs, as others said.) That gives you clearance on each side of the table for people to get up and move behind other seated diners. You can seat 3 on each long side. And in a pinch, you can seat two at each end, especially if you have a short bench there. (2 kids on a piano bench is our solution when we have a crowd).

Those clearances ignore the barstool issue. For chairs all around the table and comfortable clearance to move, it has to be no bar seating when the table is in use. If you want to seat people at each location at the same time, you need bench seating at the wall opposite the bar, with the table set close so seating is "slide in" like a banquette. Not comfy, but maybe fine for kids. Just a decision for what works best for your family.

I think bench seating is find with kids, and you aren't using this table for formal dining! Agree that the splay-legged chairs are not the best option, but they can work if you can't afford to replace all of it. Kid/pet friendly rugs can be found at Ruggable. We use one in our "Kids Kave" at the vacation rental cabin.

If you made this table the same height as the counter you could reuse the three stools.

Love Judianna's idea--second picture. If your peninsula extension is long enough for that to work, it's a great way to fit 7 (6 foot extension) and still have room for comfortable circulation in the eating space.

Replace your set with a long rectangular table and backless benches, that way you can still move about the space comfortably and fit even more people at the table.

Perhaps trying a banquette area would work for you. If you don't want to do that you might look into adding a bench.

Super easy to get what you want with a trestle table and immovable bench seating. Some great ones have been shown. Do not separate the family when having meals!!!!
