Comments (4)I am most likely going with this on the new house as well. For watts, it would depend on your speaker placement, speaker power handling, intented use (style of music, do you normally like higher volumes, etc). I ordered polk audio 8" 120 watt speakers to install to give me the flexibility. Our volume levels are typically higher than most :) However realize the 60 watt all in one does have the preamp that can be sent through to a separate power amp, either if you find you need more power or as you said, the amp craps out. We will most likely go this route, the cheaper upfront all in one. If we find the 60 watts per zone isnt cutting it, we can add a separate power amp later. This will also only be used for main level music listening and tv listening. I do have a separate home theater setup with klipsch speakers, powered sub, etc for the basement theater/gaming/football watching room....See MoreHow to install a flat screen tv without showing the wire clutter
Comments (27)Hi aduncan Thank you checking with me! I had a deadline for yesterday and didn't cehck the boards. I haven't signed up for notifciations too. I happened to check the boards and saw this in the first few pages. The information which you guys gave me was very useful. The installer also suggested the same thing and a IR repeater/finder so that we could use a remote in front of the TV while the setup will be hidden on the other side of the TV in the office room. We don't have a closet close by and he gave this suggestion which I liked. He suggested to add ethernet jacks in a couple of places in the house and gave me suggestions for a speaker bar to be placed on top of the TV. He said that it will be thin so I don't have to worry about the looks. He suggested using a sling box to view the video content from the DVR. But that could be used for viewing the content only on a computer not on a tv. I could go to the route of satellite connection with multiple DVRs for that. All in all, it was a great meeting. He hasn't given me the quotes yet though! I can decide what I want then....See Morequestion about t.v. in kitchen
Comments (9)I recently bought the Samsung LN26B460 26" LCD TV for $359. As I remember, I also considered a monitor that was the same item (minus the tuner), and it cost about $80 less. (Stupid me thought I needed the tuner, but forgot I had to get a digital tuner from the cable company, so I could have gone with the monitor. The display on this television is just spectacular - everyone comments on it. I hook my laptop up to this television often, using an HDMI connection. (If you don't know much about laptop-to-tv connections, as I didn't, this is the easiest one. It requires only one cable, and that cable carries both audio and video information. With other sorts of connections, you need separate audio and video connectors. If you're looking for a new laptop for the kitchen, be sure it has an HDMI-out port.) If you can hook up your laptop and your laptop has a webcam, that would be the easiest way to web-chat. It's really easy to set up. Feel free to email me with questions. In addition to the web conferencing, there are other benefits to being able to hook up your laptop to a flat-screen tv or monitor. For example, I can buy or rent movies online and watch them immediately while baking in the kitchen. (LOVE THIS!) I can watch shows from Hulu or other TV websites. I can listen to the radio via the internet with the laptop, using the television speakers (which are better than the laptop speakers). I can listen to music that's stored on my laptop, again using the television speakers. I can (another favorite) pull up a recipe online and actually be able to see it from across the room, because it's on television. One thing you need to remember if you're going to do this is to set the power settings on the laptop so it doesn't turn off after a certain amount of idle time. I am no expert on any of this, but I am enjoying having the television that can be connected to the laptop *so* much!...See MoreAudio system help in southern California?
Comments (4)Thanks, cuisinista. I'll email you for the names but as DH and I have continued to talk, I think we are realizing that we are not really even sure what it is that we are paying for...we're wondering if we just go buy the hardware, can our electrician set it all up? We are interested in setting up a surround sound system for our new family room tv as well as a couple of ceiling speakers in the living room for our stereo. Want to be able to listen to the stereo in the family room as well. How complicated is this set-up? Is it really a specialty, if we research the quality of hardware we want? (I discovered the Home Entertainment forum today as well after posting here and I posted there and am hoping there might be some activity there.)...See MoreRelated Professionals
