Thoughts on GE Profile 30" Slide-In Gas Range

Does anyone have a GE Profile 30" Slide-In Gas Range? I am looking at model PGS930YPFS and wondering how others like/dislike it. I have read some reviews about the oven control panel failing, leaving it unusable. Some people do not like how sensitive the controls are (they brush up against them and they turn on, for example). I have also read/seen in person that the grates on the range scratch the stainless steel easily. Other than that it seems nice. It would be replacing a freestanding gas range.

If you do not recommend this range, can you recommend others for me to look into? Cafe looks nice but too expensive for what seems very similar to the above range (other than looks, and we have a GE Profile refrigerator). I would not mind a more commercial range but not one that is $4k+ which they all seem to be.

I originally wanted the similar GE Profile double oven gas range, but after seeing those in person I think the lower oven is just too close to the ground and would be awkward to use, especially for heavy items and we mostly cook with heavy cast iron.

Is there anything I should know/consider when swapping a freestanding range for a slide-in? I see there is a filler kit available, but I'm not sure if that is needed or not?

We are taking out the current microwave and the cabinet above it, running and duct outside and replacing those with this wall-mounted hood:

We will also be replacing the lights with flat LEDs, painting the walls and ceilings.

I have the GE café 30" slide in gas and I love it. I can't tell you how well it performs. I can simmer sauce or soup all day! The oven is not the best I have ever owned, but it does have a lot of features and I use them (proof, air fry). I am kicking myself for not getting the dual fuel instead.

I do have an electric oven in the basement kitchen and hubby was pretty adamant about not spending the money for dual fuel......just walk down the stairs! HA! I make him carry up the hot 25lbs turkey.

Thanks! I am used to using a gas oven so I have not even looked at duel fuel ranges.

If it's a slide in, I think that you need to wait till the granite is in till you install the range. My contractor is doing that - installing all of the appliances after everything is in. The cabinet maker and the granite fabricator will need the Kenmore cut out directions/dimensions. You generally have a couple of inches of counter top behind a slide in, so that would be another reason why the granite needs to go in first. This is why I want my contractor to install it. I'm worried the Sears crew will be in too much of a hurry, and they will scratch or mar my granite during install. The legs need to be adjusted so that the range just barely skims over the countertop in the back and on the sides. Therefore, it's important that the cabinets/countertop is very level for a nice tight fit. I hear your husband on the knobs, it was definitely a concession for me. I am fearful now that I'll be the only one able to operate this very "starship" looking range. But, since DD and I are the only ones who cook in my house, we should be fine. But, that is also why I bit the bullet and got the 5 year warranty. Knob controls tend to last - who knows about this digital temp adjustment. One good thing is that it's supposed to make the temps more precise, and goes down to simmer on each burner. Oh well - I hope you enjoy your Profile!

Seems to me that I recall a couple Ladies here in GW that have had less than "Stellar Results", trying to bake with some of the GE Electric Ovens, One oven was swapped out for Wolf Ovens, and the other poor Lady is still having to put up with hers, last I hear tell. Grouping all Whirlpool appliances together and saying they are identical, is like me, "Funning around with Antss" about Gaggenaus, and Miele Fridges. They are under the same "Bosch Umbrella" so are they the same----I already know that "won't fly" with Antss--soooo---why should it fly any better with Whirpool???? Whirlpool as well as Bosch makes appliances aimed at different markets, and it is "Sheer Folly" to say a bottom lime Whirlpool DW is the same as a "Top of the Line KA DW" just as it is folly to make the same remarks comparing Miele and Gaggenau with the lower end Bosch stuff ---alto---I do agree they charge more for these "Premium brands" than they should---especially taking the economy into picture> Gary

I'm also looking at this gas range in white (PGB918DEMWW) and would appreciate some feedback. After reading some reviews I also have a couple concerns. I've read about the knobs melting due to a problem with the oven seal and also about the gray stove top grates on the white model developing brown spots that can't be removed. (Not sure if this was solved with the coating they have now.) This range has all the features I'm looking for: the 5 burners, double oven with the smaller oven on the bottom, convection, cast iron grates, etc. We almost purchased this range yesterday but I decided to wait until our remodel is complete to bring the new range in. After doing some further reading about these defects I'm thankful we didn't order it yet. Anyone have experience with this model?
