Suggest you stay away from Kiwi and Wisteria. Both are very heavy vines which can 'eat' the house. About 40 years I was faced with a similar situation. We constructed a normal full trellis that stretched from post to post painted the house color. It was attached in such a manner that we could lay it back for house painting when necessary. Then I planted two white seedless grape vines at the base. Grapes should be cut back in early spring and quickly regrow. Easy to secure and train on a trellis. And, you have a food crop. Last year I was back in that town and stopped at the old homestead. Introduced myself. Their first question was, "Did you plant the grapes? We love them!" It was fun to revisit all my original plantings which had been well cared for by various owners. Very few changes in the original plan had been made over the years.

Yes those V shaped things at the top of your post should be removed. It shouldn't be difficult. Your hanging baskets need to hang lower. Go to your big box store and have them cut you some heavy chain in about 1 to 1 1/2 ft length to lower the baskets. Most baskets need to be watered at least every 2 days, some times every day depending on the weather. Also once a week submerge the whole basket in a bucket of water and let it sit for a half an hour to an hour to re-dehydrate the soil. I like the idea of a yellow front door and yellow flowers. It is only paint. Tell the hubby if he doesn't like it, it can be repainted. Take him with you when you go pick out the paint and have him pick out 3 yellows he likes and then you choose between them. That way he has a stake in the color. If you don't like any that he picked out just buy the color you like and wait a few week to paint. Then when he says it doesn't look the same just tell him it is hard to visualize a color from a little paint chip. Lucky me my husband lets all the decorating up to me. If it was up to him he would buy a 5 gallon bucket of white paint and paint everything in and out the same.

I have many friends who have large families that all share a summer/weekend house. They have found that old dorm/camp cabin sleeping (single beds lined up in a row), is far better than built-in bunks. First of all, bunks are the devil to make-up and change sheets. They can also be hot. One friend used old curtains around each bed - like in a hospital - if one sleeper wanted privacy to change for bed. All children over a certain age slept in this room until they were grown. She grouped children by age, so when older ones came to bed, they would not disturb the younger ones. They also had a big "common room" with a TV, but it was really only for rainy days - everyone was expected to be outside doing something in nice weather. One has an actual barn set up this way, and her adult children take turns sleeping in a bedroom in the barn for safety.

Love the look of sketch with metal roof! I had not realized those high windows were even there. I do wonder how the rain gets moved off that porch roof section down to main roof & gutters. If you had to add downspouts or gutters that might spoil that look. I’m trying to understand Norwood Architects suggestion of shed dormer with lower pitch - is that this look but lower where it connects to main roof? What happens with those great windows then? Your home is very pretty. Yes, those shrubs by the entry do need trimming as they got too comfortable & grew!
