saving tomato seeds messed up!
Comments (7)Isn't gardening fun??? 1. First of all, I hope your prettiest big tomato is an open pollinated one rather than a hybrid. Saving and planting hybrid tomato seeds may be interesting but not productive. 2. Do not try to ferment now. Just take your paper towel encrusted with tomato seeds and let it dry. Get it really dry, and then a bit drier. When it is absolutely dry, put the towel/seed pack in a jar, screw on the lid, and store in your fridge until it is time to start new seedlings next Spring. 3. I have known folks over my 80 plus years who successfully save seeds by simply scraping out the seeds and goop into a newspaper, dry a few days, and then put away in the pantry till April. They then unroll the paper, scrape off the seeds and plant in potting medium. They do fine You will also, I'm sure....See MoreDid anyone save Pappu's 'Big Stinking Mess' thread?
Comments (37)Maybe it smelled like a Industrial Hog Farm Operation. Ever drive by one of those? They are way worse than the Cattle Feed Lots lol. One time we were driving through Iowa and smelled the more horrific stench and this huge dump truck pulled in front of us complete full and overflowering with dead hogs. They were boated and reeked so bad we all almost started retching, and immediately were making sure the air vents were closed and the windows tightly shut. The kids were in the back seat and that was really something for them to see lol. They were making jokes about them taking the hogs to make dogfood or bologna lol. DH was desperately trying to get around this dead hog truck before we all just puked and died but we were stuck in traffic and everyone in the cars around us were holding their noses. When ever the truck moved a little, the bloated hogs on top would bounce around..some were hanging over the sides. The kids were making bets on if one would fall out, which surrounding vehicle they would land on. When we were finally able to get around the truck, we of course, just stared over to see who would drive such a putrid smelling truck and if he had a gas mask on or what? Noooo, the old guy had his window down, arm out smoking a cigarette like he was going to the hardware store or something. Hogs' juices were leaking down around him! It was like 98 degrees out. Thats when dh lost it and we had to pull over while he puked on the side of the road lol....See MoreCan I blame my mulch or not enough spring weeding for this mess?
Comments (9)any chance you have a pic of the premium mulch before spreading??? .. looks kinda sticky to me ... does it cover the soil ...??? many weed seed needs to touch the soil ... and the idea is to cover the soil so they cant get there ... also.. if you cover the seed on the soil.. before germination... you will have a greatly reduced germination rate ... i cant really tell. from this pic.. which was the problem ... depending on what product i got for mulch .. i went as deep as 4 to 6 inches.. so that when it settled.. it was the 2 to 3 inches i wanted ... if you put down 2 to 3.. and after settling.. it was less.. then you might need more.. to avoid this ... ken ps: because of my 5 acres.. i had a few tree removers who would dump chippings at my place ... which had a lot of green leaves ... and that was why.. i had to apply 6 inches ... by the time the leaves dried.. and the chips settled.. i might end up with the 2 to 3 inches you speak of ......See MoreCan't believe this mess. Comments (15)@RES2, The OP indicated that their closing is December 17. That doesn't sound like a custom home being built on the OP's property to me. Rather, it sounds like a spec home or production-built home that may be being built with some level of client personalization. If the home is the property of the builder and the fix is being implemented at the builder's expense, I don't see an obligation on the builder's part to check with the buyer as to whether or how to fix a problem. Time is of the essence here and the builder appears to be doing their level best to deliver a good home on time....See MoreHU-187528210
