quartz or butcher block counter (island and wall counter)
Comments (3)I think butcher block on the island with quartz on perimeter will look and function better. If you use waterlox for it, you cannot cut on it. But it will give it a nice protective furniture finish. If you want to cut on it you need to use mineral oil, which is less permanent but repairable. If you cut on it, you will see marks on it, but you can sand it and re-oil over time. You can also use an oil based finish for the more natural look but not cut on it. That what I would do. If you search here you will see discussions of waterlox versus oil versus other products like osmo for wood island tops. Breezygirl highly recommends an osmo product that I am going to use on my wood island counter once it's installed....See MoreBlack honed granite or black quartz?
Comments (12)Frey - My current granite is polished. I have been super happy with it the past 10 years. Initially we were going to keep the granite and just paint the cabinets, but then the project morphed into something bigger. So we are doing all new countertops. Funnily enough, in my search for an alternative to soapstone, I came across Virginia Mist and Raven - both a honed granite. Here are photos of the slabs from our stone supplier: http://www.tmsupply.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=660 http://www.tmsupply.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=2831 We are going to the showroom Friday to look at these and compare to the Diresco Velvet Quartz. I wouldn't be surprised if we went back to the granite for the perimeter and quartz for the island. Here is the quartz for the island: http://www.tmsupply.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=7186 What color cabinetry are you doing?...See MoreMatte Black Granite Perimeter Counter with Shiny White Quartz Island
Comments (16)we have leathered (honed?) absolute black perimeters and in each of the three bathrooms the island is butcher block and we love it no fingerprints, stuff (crumbs, flour etc) does show but clean up is easy and looks great i've had a very high end granite with lots of movement and i don't clean up any more now than i did then and i disliked it a lot......i wouldn't choose a "shiny" finish for the island but i'm not going to say it wouldn't be attractive... bil has absolute black (shiny) and it is difficult to keep looking nice......See MoreBlack Marks On Arctic White Quartz Kitchen Countertop
Comments (6)@Vincent Barrett I found this thread from 2 years ago. How is it going with the arctic white quartz? I'm considering it for a couple of bathrooms. Did the black marks get worse or stay the same over time?...See MoreMaureen
