Stamps can be large an ugly and therefore seem distracting when windows are first installed. But in most cases, the window treatments hide them and they become non-issues. And just as the rep from the OP's window company assured her, even when window treatments aren't used, the stamps are still not very noticeable even in direct sunlight. What continues to be "normal" is for stamps to be located either right-side up or up-side down. I see it all the time in all makes of windows by all manufacturers. This orientation of the stamps has no effect on the performance of the window. Occaisionally, however, we do see stamps that are 'reversed' which as ERLA and others have noted, can mean problems and a true 'defect' if Low-E glass is involved and now the low e coating is on the wrong side. This rarely happens however, and is not the case with the windows in this thread. ------------------- The bottom line is that just because a stamp may be upside down does not mean there is anything 'wrong' with the window. It just means that the pane was oriented differently when assembled. Also, just because the stamps appear quite large also does not meean there is anything wrong with the window. These are both 'normal' and 'common' variations. It is also quite normal, for one when first observing newly installed items to have one's eye drawn to certain items (like stamps) which over time simply become less noticeable to the point of being 'invisible'. In this instance and since the owner simply didn't like the orientation of the stamp, the window rep appears willing to replace them.... just to satisfy the customer. That's the window ower's perogative to request and the window manufacturer's perogative to replace if requested and willing. The windows otherwise are not 'defective'. Hope the OP/customer ends up happy and re-assured. In 30+ years as builder and inspector, I have never heard anyone ever complain about stamps on windows. That's the only unusual thing about this entire situation.

Pal - where were you when we redid the second floor and I wound up with not just one, but TWO windows that are too close to the edge of a wall (making window treatments difficult). LOL, been there and done that, I hope to avoid the same mistake here. Crl - sadly, this room is already anti-furniture. By the numbers it should be fine. It is 11.5' wide and technically 16' long. But really it's only 11' long because the hearth at one end is 2' by 5', and there is a walkway thru it that is 3.5' wide at the other end ... So it winds up being a small space for furniture. I will probably post a layout here in the coming days. I have it on Visio but that isn't helping me arrange furniture. The good news is that we are starting from scratch, there is one armless chair I'd like to use in the room and that's it for furniture. So the sky's the limit (for everything but my budget of course). Thank you for the advice. I will stick with a similar aspect ratio for whatever panes go in the windows. I need to measure the outside of the house to see what will fit - out electrical service attaches to the house near the chimney so I need to be aware of that, too. There is only 34.5" between the edge of the fireplace and the wall today so the windows will be 2' wide or less (including trim). Diamond panes might be the solution.

Donna I'll trade you 17cm of snow for your rain. Just up from a good sleep, one coffee and going out for my first bout of shoveling snow. At least our plow guy has been round and did as much as he could. Our neighbor across the street has a snowblower and will spend most of his weekend outside clearing folks drive around us. He did ours but would not take any money towards his efforts and machine - so we got a contractor. Knowing the forecast I picked up 2 beers and I'm going to make him a batch of his favorite cookies and drop them off for when he does finally get indoors. (I did have 2 beers last night - but they were counted into the day - it's a weakness so I only buy the individual cans. In the summer I buy cases of non-alcoholic beer. Beer goes straight to my hips if I don't.) I'm not keeping any cookies that I bake at all. Installation was 5/2023, getting thru the inswing issue was the biggest issue, we strategically went room by room deciding left or right swing or non-opening. Yes the tilt in feature is what we’re mostly using especially useful at night and when not home…for security purposes. We did buy the $25 ‘brake arm ‘ for the kitchen window swing so that any guest cannot slam the sashe into our tall kitchen sink faucet. Next step is to buy 3 window blinds that attach at top and bottom of the sashe….so that we have bedroom night privacy with windows in in-swing position. Pics attached
