Does anyone have a Lomi?

I have this countertop composter, which I really love, but it’s huge. I am in the process of designing a new kitchen, and curious if there is somewhere to put it. I was thinking about under the sink on a pullout base, but I think it might emit too much heat when it is working.

Just curious if anyone has one and where they put it. Unfortunately my kitchen isn’t huge, but the Lomi is.

Can you not just carry the compost scrap bucket out to the compost heap? Things decompose naturally, without artificial aid, or expense, the old fashioned way.

Not everyone has outdoor space for composting. Plus, in colder climates, the outdoor composting does not really happen in winter. We have to pause in winter. Finally, the Lomi can accept animal products. It turns it all into compost basically overnight.

OP, I don’t have a Lomi but have looked at one for wintertime. Are you enjoying it?

Does anyone have an induction cooktop that does NOT buzz or click

We have our first induction cooktop, a Wolf, after cooking exclusively on gas. the cooktop does not make the very annoying noise, but certain pans do. We have only Le Creuset and All Clad, both of which we were told were recommended for induction cooktops. No sound from the Le Creuset, but certain All Clad pans seem to be worse than others. In our experience the frying pans are the worst. Heavier pots and saucepans not as much. And, for whatever reason, one particular non stick pan was the worst of all, so we stopped using it because it was THAT ANNOYING.

My DH has this. He is no longer able to drive. He is diabetic and went through a period of denial - quit taking his meds, etc. He neglected his eyes and this is the result of that. Had they caught it sooner, he would be able to see better. For now, he gets injections in his eyes and laser eye surgery. He has had several of each since the first of last year. He uses magnifying glasses all the time. We just keep them laying around everywhere. His eyes are both better than when he was first diagnosed. They aren't promising anything, but as long as he keeps having small improvements and they continue the treatment, we are thankful. Bad thing is that we were planning to retire early, but now we can't. I have to continue to work to get health insurance until I am 65. I have a heart condition and he has diabetes and the eye problem. We are both uninsurable for all practical purposes. That is what hurts both of us. We worked so hard saving to retire and having enough to do a lot of traveling. Now - who knows. But, you caught yours early, so you should be in good shape. Just be sure you go to the doctor often to have them checked.

Does anyone have a Kohler Smart Divide Sink or have an opinion?

I decided on getting the new Vault, which is also Smart Divide. We wash a lot of dishes by hand, so I need two sides, and I like all the accessories that Kohler has, like the dish drain/rack. I do a lot of cleaning in the kitchen by filling one side with dish soap and clorox, using a dish towel to wipe everything down. Having two bowls lets me do that easier and faster..... ....and having that lower bridge in the middle means if I forget and leave the water on, I won't flood the entire kitchen.... ...not like that has ever happened! LOL

"A properly nitrogen to carbon balanced compost pile will rot meat, AND be active during the winter."

And so will all the animals that are going to be rummaging around in the compost looking for dinner, and if you don't know what you're doing it can end up a big infectious waste dump full of flies and who knows what else. That smells. Like rotting meat. I believe some municipalities ban the composting of animal products, that is obviously a local issue.

What about one of the rev a shelf appliance lifts used for kitchen aids? It could have it's own little cupboard and be off the counter. Would that also be too hot?

Houzz: where you get answers to questions you don’t ask. :-D Anyway, yes, I live at 7K ft and winter just doesn’t work for composting. I have had a tumbler for years, it eventually works, but it’s full now. And bears etc would love an open pile. The Lomi cuts down on so much waste (I don’t need to totally fill my septic tank, either). I know it isn’t the same as regular compost, but it works for me.

The Lomi website says not to place it under overhead cabinets during a cycle because it releases steam. So, it sounds like keeping it in a cabinet during a cycle would not be a great idea. :(
