Young apricot pruning advice

I picked up this Katy apricot tree in August. I know it looks in rough shape. I'm not too worried about rehabilitating it for this season as it will go dormant in a few months. I'm mostly interested in what I should do for it's first pruning this winter. Most of what I've read suggests I need to establish 3-5 scaffold branches, but this tree is more branches than most examples I find online. I can easily identify three main branches. I have to get more creative to make 4 or 5. Should I just remove all but the 3 main limbs and cut those back to 6-12" stubs? Or be more conservative with the pruning?
