...but all the same, a genus known to shed its leaves among the earliest of all in the fall. One can easily tell what ash they're looking at if the bud scale scars are present, the green ash having a "top" line of more or less straightness, while the white ash has a big smiley face curve. There are other ID'ing techniques, but that's a good one. +oM

Thank you! This is a great hedge plant. I have had a line of it along my lawn in Makawao for almost 40 years and it hardly needs pruning. I have taken cuttings and I'm going to line the side of the property with it.

in flower.. a huge tree can reek of the magnificent aroma of wet ugly dirty gym socks.. lol ... btw.. a vast majority of galls are cosmetic in nature ... and in no way harm the tree long term .. i mean really .. their life span is limited to when the leaves fall off .. the cherry themselves are maybe a quarter inch.. and are 95% pit ... and i am pretty sure the birds use them a laxative ... usually using gutters and fence.. etc.. as places to deposit prefertilized seed ... ken
