This is beautiful!!  Is so something like a more refined jute.  They are usually inexpensive and quite durable.  It would not compete for attention with your selected focal points and would not pop too much against the floor but would still define the space.  What are you thinking for a coffee table?

P.S. If you want something to stand up to pets and kids, I'd look at flatweave outdoor rugs.

Here's an idea for all that heavy use... FLOR carpet tiles, you can pull up individual soiled tiles, clean them and set back down...easy peasy DIY install. Lots of beautiful styles, we have them in our LV and entry. Don't need carpet pad either.

Generally two options for size:

The seating and coffee table can fit comfortably entirely on an area rug centered in the space and with room around the perimeter for consoles, game tables, window tables, etagers, entertainment center, etc.

Or a smaller rug -not too small- that the front legs of seating are on the rug and coffee table sits entirely. Helpful with seating in L shape.

NO way a jute type rug with that wallpaper I think look at carpet cut to size and have the 2 ends finished with fringe . I think really beautiful cream or a very soft green .

I’m a fan of using subtle geometric patterns with big floral prints, or mixing various other patterns. A solid rug could certainly look nice, but I wouldn’t shy away from something patterned if you like a more eclectic and collected look … especially with the paper just on one wall.

So even if not these specifically, I just wanted to show bringing in a pattern.

Jute rug in the space now that moved here from our former house and I don’t like it with the paper. The general feel of it is that it seems too casual.

Another idea is to shop vintage. If you have antique stores around, or look on Facebook Marketplace, etc.

I could definitely see something animal print (subtle, not loud) or heavy rattan in there, too.

If you decide on glass, a vintage Lebarge coffee table would fit your wonderful style well.

I don’t mind your curtain color, but if you want to maybe tone them down some, what about adding woven blinds under them?

Or, install vintage cafe blinds on the bottom half … and could fold them back during the day. I bought some on FB Marketplace this year, love them.

My daughter recently found a La Barge table at a local shop for $100. We didn't know anything about it, but she fell in love instantly. It's a little taller than a standard coffee table, but works perfectly in her space. Looks like this one being sold for $1600 on 1st Dibs...

I kind of like this, though. She could hang out anywhere in the room until you need her ; )

I didn’t know what a LaBarge was either until I googled it after Jinx mentioned. Your daughter got an incredible deal! I think it would go perfectly in here; I’m just not convinced my family is ready for fancy! Though having a glass top may dissuade the 10 year old from her daily plopping of all 5th grade things onto the coffee table 🙄.

I totally get it. We didn’t even have coffee tables when the kids were young…where else are they going to have wrestling matches if not center stage? I love the velvet ottomans you put in your ideabook, but think the leather idea is great with your velvet sofas. You could do a small ottoman with a small table in keeping with an eclectic vibe.

The Citizenry has these mix and match leather ottomans. You could probably add feet if you wanted one or both to be elevated.

This post is probably closed, If not, you're going to hear my opinion regarding your coffee table dilemma. A year ago I bought a circular Houzz coffee table. I'm trying to pull it up. It has three tables in one, lots of storage and a pull up table too boot!

Not too late actually Robin. I wound up using two ottomans there that I found on sale at the time and they are ok but not 100% hitting the mark. If you have a picture or link, I’d love to see what you’re describing here! I’ll try to update the photos; we did add two Viv swivels from West Elm to the small wall where the little wooden folding chairs were. So I’m always looking at the room wondering if it feels too crowded now.
