I would do a sofa and two chairs. Take your dad you when you shop. Figure out what could be most comfortable. Ideally it would be great if both can be, but I think the chairs would provide most and easier to get up from.

May we have a couple more pictures - one with your back to the round mirror on the wall next to the glass doors and one with your back to the glass doors. Also, may we have a hand drawn sketch of the room with measurements that include windows, doors, fireplace and openings. How many guests do you want to seat and is there a TV in this room? Thank you ahead of time.

Is the room through the door a formal dining room? May I ask what are the measurements of that room? Would you be willing to turn that into your TV room/family room if it is big enough? We understand if you would prefer not to. Just a thought.

I notice in the picture that it looks as if you have another sitting area. Would that room possibly be a better room as a TV room? Just asking. Thanks in advance.

Hello Dana, got it. Are you still looking for help or have you gotten what you need? Is there a chance you can post the blueprint that has the room measurements on it? This one is the electricians copy of the blueprint so it’s hard to figure out the dimensions of the room. Thanks ahead of time.

Hi so sorry I don’t come on and check this often enough . But the other room you see in blueprints and through hallway is technically a formal dinning room ish. I say “ish” because it’s actually pretty small. Previous owners had it set up as an office and I have it as a formal sitting room with upright piano . So not looking to switch rooms. The room is the picture is the biggest I have in the house . I will try to find blue prints with measurements . If not I’ll just give rough estimates shortly

I think the best resolve is a single couch and arm chair, perhaps you could do a sofa with L chaise to the door side of the room

When it comes to furniture and if you want to maximize seats, the default choice is modular solutions, there are plenty to choose. Bellini Sofas are great, very comfortable and are very trendy now. Barcelona Designs have a good selection.
