How to decorate new living room with new and old?
Comments (3)A few years ago we remodeled our house and so also needed to find ways to merge the new and old. Having a theme and some consistancy in terms of overall style and color scheme is very important. Get the bones right--as furniture can always be updated as you go along. One thing I never did, though at times wish I did, was to consult with an interior designer to help me with my color choices. Some of the best advice I received here on this board was not to rush it and take it one step at a time. Good decor is an evolutanary process that happens over many years. If you are putting in hardwood floors, then one of your first decisions may be to choose some area rugs and use those to build a color/fabric palate around....See MoreAccent color ideas for our new living room furniture please
Comments (7)First of all, the wall color really isn't working. Maybe this is a trick of the light in the photo, but the walls look beige and the carpet gray. If you're up for repainting, try a color that is darker than what is there to create more contrast with the leather sofas, maybe a blue-green so that it would complement the rug and blue chair. Or lay an area rug down over the carpet to minimize its effect. I realize people get attached to their recliners, but that is too much leather furniture in one room for my taste. Do you have another room where you could use a piece so you could put an upholstered piece in the room? It looks like you need a different style of coffee table. Make sure you have your seating arrangement how you want it before thinking about a new coffee table. The art you have in the room currently is hung too high. Bring it down about six inches. Each piece is fine by itself, but they don't go together. Keep the one you prefer and find another to coordinate with it. It's also OK to hang a pair or three in an arrangement over a sofa. The half moon window is unusual. I hope someone comes along with some ideas for that wall....See Morehelp me design our new living room
Comments (14)A whole home color palette doesn't mean that you will choose one color for your entire home, but like coordinating an outfit, the colors used in each room will tie that room to the rooms that are next to it. Most of us have colors we love. My sister loves fall colors, muted moss greens, orange reds and golds. I love purples, teal and reds. The idea of selecting a whole home color palette is to select a neutral color family that works with the things that you can't afford to change or don't want to change and the colors that you love (colors found in your art and décor). Then you pick a white that works well with your neutral and then you decide how and where you want to incorporate your colors. My sister's home is beautiful, but my art and belongings would not look good in her home. Her art and belongings would not look good in my home. In the home below you can see where the colors move from green to purple with a room in the middle that has both colors. They chose a white that works with both of their main colors for all the walls. This home carried the colors from the main living area into the bedrooms and bathroom using wall color....See MoreLayout my new Living Room! Can I add a Fireplace?
Comments (11)Patricia I'd say my style is eclectic. We are moving from New Mexico where our house was sort of southwestern mid century to the Pacific Northwest, and the house is a historic sears home with some craftsman/Foursquare/ prairie type features. Part of why we aren't bringing much furniture , I just couldn't see it working in the new house..So I can do whatever style I just like color and I want it to look right for the space! I was thinking I could maybe do a corner FP and put the TV in the flex room, it would keep the video gaming out of sight which might be nice....See Moreralbaneze
