End of season tubers - follow-up
Comments (0)Recap: last year, in autumn, I bought three tubers that had put out little sprouts despite being held in plastic baggies for several months. I planted them up and they grew on over the winter, then went into terminal dormancy in spring. The tubers became mushy/corky. However, I put the 'new' shoots into water as they fell in spring. Two survived, developed roots and a mini tuber. They were planted out for this summer and the cascade begonia is now flowering while the upright is still building bulk through leaf production. Just passing the info along. If you mislay a tuber this coming season it may not be a total loss when you find it 'much later'....See MoreEnd of season photos
Comments (2)Thanks; I've posted some more photos in the Palms & Cycads forum, documenting the progress of my hardy palms since 2003. Here is a link that might be useful: Palm progress...See MoreFirst shoot of the season (Giant Timber/Oldhami)
Comments (2)Yes, it's sideways. There is no tool here to change the orientation after you post it. If I'm posting and my picture needs rotation, I do it on my computer before I post it and then it has the correct orientation in my post. You could use the edit function in the upper right corner of your post, delete the picture, and re-post it properly oriented; or you could re-take it with the phone oriented 90 degrees from the shot above, and then post that. Did the photo you posted seem to have the proper orientation before you posted it?...See MoreA new installment of photos before the season ends
Comments (14)Julia, I have had Ring the Bells of Heaven long enough for it to be a good-sized clump. It always is purple here, but all purples and red/purples tend to be deeper and more intense in my soil. I have seen it growing in other gardens and it isn't quite as purple-hued as mine. You are lucky that you only have a few JB's here and there.....they have taken over here. I have given up on hand-picking them off my roses. It is too time consuming and futile, since there are easily a hundred or more every day....See Morenicole___
