End of Season Garden Update - with Photos!
Comments (5)Awww, thanks. I'm not so sure I have "skills" per se, but I like puttering around back there and, honestly....I'm cheap so almost everything in my garden has been scavenged from around the house. I like pushing myself to see how creative I can be. Exhibit A: Tiki torch as cucumber trellis... :)...See Morepinch off the end of the shoot?
Comments (2)peter: Don't think it makes much difference if you do it now or wait until dormant season. If the current shoot running up the stake is straight and survives the winter, you can keep it as the permanent trunk. Comments (0)Recap: last year, in autumn, I bought three tubers that had put out little sprouts despite being held in plastic baggies for several months. I planted them up and they grew on over the winter, then went into terminal dormancy in spring. The tubers became mushy/corky. However, I put the 'new' shoots into water as they fell in spring. Two survived, developed roots and a mini tuber. They were planted out for this summer and the cascade begonia is now flowering while the upright is still building bulk through leaf production. Just passing the info along. If you mislay a tuber this coming season it may not be a total loss when you find it 'much later'....See MoreEnd of growing season in my garden

The low this morning in Tallahassee was 23F, ouch, thought it was a tad early for lower 20s, even in the interior panhandle. This obviously nuked the annuals and seasonal tropicals. Does this also fry the leaves off the deciduous trees which are not yet bare? Saw this happen to some of the trees in Atlanta years back after an early November night into the upper teens. The low this morning at the Orlando Executive Arpt., on the other hand, was 51F....See MoreRelated Professionals
