Pendant height over island, which looks better?
Comments (9)I like the higher one because that's about where mine are hung. We are tall and mine are at 39" above the countertop so they don't impede vision. Imagine someone working on the prep side of the island and someone standing (because all the seats are take or BC or no seating) trying to have a conversation. There's nothing more annoying than having to speak "around" the pendants. But, if the lower one at 66" (5'6") above the floor is above the line of sight of anyone in residence, that's fine too....See MoreWhich rug looks better in master bath?
Comments (52)I saw your house pics yesterday on the house building forum! I had actually saved your bathroom pic (the other view you have of the larger view...you should post it over here!!) to use for inspiration for our upcoming home build. I LOVE your bathroom. You do have similar colors to our bathroom now, which I love enough to repeat in our future bathroom. Our paint color is a bit lighter (Benjamin Moore Quiet Moments cut to 75%) but the feel is the same. We have white fluffy bath mats and I wouldn't have it any other way. Having seen your bathroom from the angle where you can see the front view of your tub with that great window and the other vanity on the other side...I wouldn't want anything to distract from it....See MoreHardwood - Which look is better? Comments (14)Daisy - Yes you can the same as site finished. I've also read the finish is tougher. Tina - I agree about the colors and not too dark. I think dark flooring would be a nightmare to clean. I also think when it's so dark it looks like brown carpet. I definitely don't want anything orange, not yellow, and not red. Maybe a hint of red. I like the level of darkness on this flooring. I think I'd like it better with more brown less red. Linelle - There are companies around here that do dustless refinishing. I can't imagine the cost, but when the time comes I think we'll probably go that way. How bad is the clean/dust from refinishing? If we lived in a two story home I wouldn't mess with bedroom upstairs. I do LIKE carpet under my feet and I enjoy running the vacuum like a weirdy. :) This is purely a visual update for me though I do image our house will be less dusty without the carpet. Sheesh - Hmm... that is a lot. I think it may help that I'm short. ? 5'1" here and I hear that with age I'll most likely shrink a little, ha. (Not funny really!) I'm not bothered doing work at the counters if I'm in shoes with little heels. I don't sport heels often in the house though. I should probably start a thread just on the kitchen. Tile would create the same issue. I don't really want tile. I also don't want to install any type of fake wood near the real wood so that leaves vinyl. I think anything that's not wood makes it harder to decorate around or change up. There's also the baseboards. Mine are only 3 something". I think instead of replacing ALL the base I'd rather use white shoe moulding and then maybe later add another piece of moulding on top to make it larger....See MoreWhich Curtains (or neither?)
Comments (101)Carrie, do you like Etsy? Browse Etsy for lamps..(check your local CL as well if you're not averted to it-I know some people don't like it since can be not very safe. We used it A LOT without problems-but still had couple unpleasant situations. Not bad, just couple situations when half the house is furnished in CL stuff. But still worth mentioning. )..chances are you'll find very interesting lamps. Obviously it's pages upon pages of lights..but it's fun. And most likely will be something with character, priced right, if not made by a seller-you can always write a message try to see whether the price can be better. I don't dare to ask with handmade, I do ask all the time about vintage, and usually people will do a little discount. They'll answer all your questions, they'll pack it properly, they care about their feedback. EBay is another source obviously-Etsy is more personal though. 99% of sellers will take returns-can be PITA of course, but gives some reassurance. Also lamps are easier than chandeliers for example. Estate sales can be good too. One of our nightstand lights is some big name brand, that costs hundreds-yet it was smth like 50 bucks I guess. Also I wouldn't check it out otherwise, I just wouldn't look for that type of a lamp, it's very traditional. Detailed traditional. But when I saw it up close I loved it. The light on the other nightstand(my side)-is totally different modest tole mcm-it's a task light that I can direct however I please, since I read in bed. I mean I read almost only in bed. It's a bit shorter-ok I put couple books under it so it's higher. This one, I found on Etsy. And these lamps of totally different pedigree work quite well together. I'd go with ceramic in a heatbeat-but I know myself..I can be clumsy, If you're not-then yes by all means check ceramics too. They can be super cool. Check these sites if you haven't yet-the richness of lights out there is overwhelming, in a good way. Even if you end up finding something new-will give you a lot of great ideas, and will be fun to look at. At most stores, one has smaller selection(and, usually, pays more) We covet what we see(c)-so I didn't even know that I love so many lights until I saw them.....See MoreKswl
