thoughts on this pendant for 10.4’ island

It has been a full-time job trying to find the right pendant for our long kitchen island. I found this sphere pendant, measures 16” round, 19.74” height. Center to center rough-ins are 32.” I tried using visuals to determine if the size and spacing worked, but still could not decide. I decided to order two and return if they don’t work out!

They fixtures will be 16”apart from the middle of each light and 22” at each end the island. of. I could have the two end rough in’s moved a few inches and that would allow fewer inches at either end of the island.

This is a good basic article, If you need task lighting, then down light is better. IF you only need some general room light and esthetic then these will work. As far as shadows go, because the light is cast threw the bars of the fixture you will get shadows from that.

there is no min for celing height for pendents.....i'd stick to the low volatge pendents they look much better also hang on a thin coax cable as compared to a thick rod or thick wire....check out some of the applacation shots at lbl lighting web site and tech lighting web site.....pm with any questions i'm a lighting designer so can help out.....remember that pendents hang about 2.5 ft off a counter top....just above eye level.

Well, it sounds like schoolhouse pendant wins!! Definitely in pewter? Is brushed nickel ok? (one manufacturer I'm looking at only offers that.) Faucet is chrome but it's the only chrome thing in the room, so that shouldn't make a difference, right? Would the brush nickel coordinate well enough with the appliances? I'd think so, but I'm no finish expert. EEEEE I'm getting so excited! I ordered all the appliances yesterday, should be in in 10 days! And my contractor just sent me a picture of the island in with the new floor!

You may want to revisit your island size, as well as your light size. Most stone slabs are not that wide, and you would need a horizontal seam down the middle of the whole. I do not find 18" large with a 108" ceiling. I find it rather small. A pair of larger more bulbs, , multi light fixtures would be better. 16" apart is much too close, no matter what.

The island is 10'4" long x 5'11". Ceiling ia 9', as indicated above. Quartz countertop with two seams, barely visible. It is a very large island, which is the trend these days in new builds.

My first thought, that will cast a lot of shadows, and give no working light. But its pretty.

Thx for your response! It is a challenge finding the right size and style. There are Very few lighting stores in our area to see the physical pieces, so I will likely order from a catalog. Good point about the lighting. In my primary residence, I have a three light fixture with downlighting, which provides excellent task lighting. I am trying to find something without glass since this is a coastal home and looking for low maintenance.. I do like the orbit style but now rethinking if that is what I want in terms of lighting. I will likely use the island for prepping so good lighting is important. Suggestions and pictures welcome!

I am thinking the shadows will not be as noticeable because the pendants would be hung much lower than a ceiling fixture.
