It's sort of a non-holiday for us.

Never celebrated it but it sometimes falls on my birthday. I signed up to work tomorrow, not a great way to come back from vacation, on a holiday but, oh well.

Always had big family get togethers back home. Not too many of us right here, but

will be with my DD and SIL. Had lunch with grandsons yesterday. Growing up,

all my family was in the same general location and we had get togethers for every

Holiday and whenever we could think them up! Now, we are kind of strung around

and don't see each other very often. I miss those days. A lot of Government employees

in the family and always thought of it as a Holiday.

It was never a family holiday for us in Texas - way too hot to be comfortable.

I always wanted Texas Independence Day (March 2) or the Vernal Equinox to be our family holiday because the weather was so much nicer. Either that or Halloween. I ended up settling for Thanksgiving, which generally had very pleasant weather in Texas.

We're trying to catch up on some yard work this weekend. I needed a couple of trailer loads of compost that we didn't pick up and I'm not sure we'll find them open tomorrow. If anything, we could run out to the beach tomorrow for BBQ at SILs, but then I'd have to think of something to make and take....;)

DH did pick up some ground brisket at a specialty butchers yesterday but we had grilled burgers last night. I'm so, so happy to have found this vendor - I hadn't had a hamburger that pleased me for the last few years until discovering the ground brisket. Yummy. I was ready to start mixing my own and adding pork or something to the sad ground beef I've been finding at the grocery store.

Fortunate to have family in town, so we are getting together this evening instead of tomorrow, since they're leaving early Tuesday by car and will need to be prepping on Monday.

We're not grilling - still too hot, but having picnic fare inside: hotdogs, hamburgers, coleslaw and homemade brownies & ice cream for dessert.

We have never celebrated Labor Day. Usually take a small break. Go to the mountains, or beach for a few days.

Was never a big gathering or celebration day for my family. Usually focused in getting whatever kids were present ready to go back to school the following day. Even though not too many school aged kids still around, part of the family is off out of town helping their college aged kids relocate and move into new housing for the coming school year.

My brother, sister and I did get together for dinner last night with grilled steaks on the BBQ. But then we try to do so at least once a month for the three of us, more frequently for my sister and I together, as we only live a few minutes apart.

My sister has something planned with friends tomorrow, so I will be puppy sitting. He is still too young to be left alone all day and I sort of share custody of him with my sister, who travels often to visit her friends and extended family, so I am puppy stepmom! I look forward to celebrating tomorrow with a lively, sweet little puppy romping around.

We never missed a family/friend labor day weekend at camp. There is 11 of us. The town down the road has a 3 day celebration and never missed a year. Food. Games. Fireworks. Ball games. Music. Gun raffle, etc. I'm sitting presently waiting for the demolition derby to begin. Fun time

We always went to the 3 day balloon festival. Had to be there @ 6am, then out to breakfast with ALL the other photographers. Haven't been in 4 years.

I put out the flag, but other than that nothing special. When I worked, it was a much anticipated three day weekend.

Labor Day was always wood cutting day for the winter. We'd go to the country place, picnic and cut wood.

We had a micro picnic yesterday. I miss the days when there were cousins by the dozens—literally. But I didn't go much as an adult, because they started having them in the most tree-less parks, and I'm neither mad nor English, and get sun poisoning. :) Now most of them are strewn by the wind. Our little picnic got moved indoors because the seniormost was too hot, but that was fine. Good company, good food, nothing nearby burning. It was nice.

Labor Day has never had much importance to us either, other than it is a 3-day weekend. Something that lost its significance in the later years of my career (I could pretty much take off at will if things were quiet) and is now of no consequence since I'm retired.

Our family is geographically disbursed and while we see all of them regularly, Labor Day would not be an occasion we'd think of to get everyone together.

Year's back when we had a second home upstate, I usually did a BBQ on all the 3 day holidays.

Fast forward, we had a tradition with good friends in that we always got together on all “off” holidays. They moved across country. I miss them and am feeling sad.

@morz8 - Washington Coast I think you’ve mentioned you sonetimes shop in Olympia, so I am curious if your butcher shop is here or elsewhere? If you don’t want to say publicly, would you feel ok telling me in a private message? I tried to message you instead of posting but it looks like you don’t have that feature turned on. Thanks!

I miss the days when my family lived close enough and my kids were interested in getting together. Eveyone is too busy with their own thing now. I am recuperating having spent nine days in the hospital last month. Had a 4 day stay then three weeks later back in for 5 days. Im just going to have a quiet weekend.

We used to have a family bbq every Labor Day, but the kiddos are both away at college again this year, so it’s just the hubs and me.

Oldest son called me earlier today, he has covid again. He’s thrice vaxxed AND he had covid this past Christmas, so he’s very frustrated. It just feels like this is never going to end sometimes.

Labor Day is a cause of celebration for us - it's the last crush of the high tourist season. We usually do a clam boil and then listen to the traffic reports on the back-ups waiting to get over the bridges (a bit of Schadenfreude). After Labor Day, we can finally breathe out here, find parking spaces and walk our dogs on the beaches...

We never did much other than maybe a BBQ because of the 3 day weekend. It was never a major holiday for us other than to mark the end of summer. We went to inlaws' vacation home Friday to Saturday and now are enjoying being home again. No plans.

I am always torn. When we don't have plans I feel kind of let down. When we do have plans, I often wish we didn't.

When the kids were young we would spend the two weeks prior to Labor Day,,plus the long weekend at the beach. Then we had a couple days to shake the sand out of our shoes before school started. This year it’s my mother’s birthday so we’ll have cake.

We used to have get togethers at the lake when the grandkids were small. Pre-C when the oldest started going off to college in August, we usually had travel plans that took us somewhere over Labor Day. We haven’t done any big long trips since 2019, and this year this is a rainy weekend here. August has seemed pretty busy, so I’m actually glad to just slow down for a weekend.

During this pandemic, people are going nuts with various restrictions not being able to go out, meet with friends and family, etc.

I don't see why you can't do something about it.

We have been having parties, some big and some small. July 4th (5 coworkers, and with our own small private fireworks), Memorial Day(10 family and relatives), Labor Day (10 friends) ----.

How?

1. An indoor portable HEPA air circulator ($80)

2. Home made HEPA air filter to go in front of air conditioner ( $5.00 card board, $30.00 HEPA filters, some duct tape, 1/2 hour of work).

3. All guests are required to be tested negative the day of party. No test kits? No problem. Come and we will test you.

Problem? Yes. $$$$$$$ for food and drinks and paper plates :-).

Satine I'm sorry that you have been ill! Hope this weekend has you feeling rested and healthier.

I don't really celebrate Labour Day per se but love the long weekend. We do usually meet with family on one of the long weekend days for breakfast at a restaurant.

Next weekend will be Hope BC's Brigade days and that will be spent with family in that area. There is a parade and horses. Love that.

Labour Day is just a paid day off for some, and a double time and a half day for others (me). It's not a "holiday" at all, and I don't even know why it exists....

We used to have a barbecue, but the last 15 years or so, not so much. This year, DH stayed home (he actually never takes a holiday) while I brought a few things to DS#2 's new place, then took him, DS#1, and GF to lunch. They know the cutest neighborhoods in the city, we had a delightful afternoon.

We always had season passes to the waterpark and it was the weekend they showed appreciation to the passholders. Hotdogs and drinks, etc. We would go and play all day, then sit on the shore of the lake and watch the sunset, saying "Good bye summer!". Mom quit going since she could not walk. Kid went away to school. So not at all any more. I did drive by the lake I live on (different one) this year and noticed all the boats in the water, if that counts. Not as big as Memorial Day was, but they were still out.

My Labor Day weekend was spent laboring outdoors. Back in July a heavy downpour washed the dock off of the end of the gazebo into the pond. There is a gathering planned here this coming weekend, so I wanted to get the dock repaired before that.
