Design Dilemma Kitchens

Would you backsplash this additional wall?

I was thinking I would backsplash the green outlines section of the window side wall. The range side wall I am planning to do exactly like this but to the ceiling and to left of sofit. I bought that same tile. I bought enough of the tile do the green outline section, however my realtor neighbor thought it was a bad idea and I should just tile the range side wall. I'm still keen on doing it but was also thinking maybe I exclude the black box? And maybe I tile the red square to keep it level with the under cabinet splash?

IMO I would also just tile the range side wall. But if you really like to do it. I suggest you align in on the countertop

Not the red square, not the black square. If it were me, I’d just do the range wall. if you want something on the window wall, maybe just a low 4-6” border over the countertop on that wall, that would leave a gap of paint below the window. You will need some edging, and a way to terminate the side on the range wall. Small pencils make great edging. Not sure how I would edge the side wall.

Personally I think I mini backsplash over a pedestal sink would look strange. The only way I think it would work would be in the case of tile, where you did it around the room as a wainscotting kind of application, which then went a little higher than the sink to act as a backsplash. Just my opinion though. I say do what you like! You're the only one who needs to love it.

What CALAM said - anything you desire to use as tesserae is OK. For a kitchen and bathroom I used cement board over 1/4" plywood, and used cement-based mortar for adhesive. As you can see from my pictures, I mixed stain glass, old jewelry, painted shells, lamp parts, whatever. Go for it, SEC: You'll kick yourself later for being so afraid to start. Once you start, all kinds of ideas and inspiration w/come to you. Just be sure and use the proper substrate and adhesive. DO NOT USE HOT GLUE, and if there w/be water issues, I wouldn't use Weldbond. Either mortar or Silicon w/be what I'd use. BTW - I recently did the upper part of the counter - not happy w/it but it's there forever. Waaaay down at the bottom of "View Album", are pictures of the counter I did two/three yrs. ago. Wish I'd left it like that. I had PLANNED to only do little bits/pieces around the mirror and sconces, but NOOOOOoooooo - I couldn't find a stopping place, and ......... Bathroom Counter and Splash

didn't have time to read all the answers. I have no backsplash and have never regretted it...been over 6 yrs. It is painted with BM matte...which has ceramic in it. It is as beautiful now as it was when first painted. I love the fact that I can showcase other things ...art etc in my kitchen and no competition. Also if I ever want to change it is as quick as a paint brush...expense is minimal..paint only ! All in all I think it is serene as you point out . Here is one pick. Since I have a lot of high heat cooking in my kitchen..built in deep fat fryer as well as gas cook top I can definitely speak to the longevity of paint only. c ( more at this album )

Perhaps try tiling the area under the window, maybe even that whole wall from the countertop to the top of the wall and stopping where the door frame starts. Then tile above the countertop and range and under the hood. If going all the way to the top of the wall on the window side, then we might suggest going all the way to the top of the wall above the hood too. Below is some inspiration from a design of ours, please note the tile above the windows.
