Hi there Yes I use them for candles (and many other things too)! I've never had much of a problem with the candles over flowing but I have a secret that I do to all of my candles and I try to but quality pillar candles. I like the textures, shapes and scents of the better quality candles. Heres my secret to better/longer burning candles......I keep all my candles in the freezer for at least a week before burning them.(I just leave them in there for storage) Makes a huge difference on how well and how long they burn. A small tea light will usually burn for 8 hours or more after being frozen. Tapers and pillars don't drip as much and burn much slower too! So.... My suggestion to you is to try freezing your candles and use what ever size saucers that you want. I personally like a few sizes bigger for pillars, but that's just the look that I want. Interesting topic Wanda and thanks for the instructions on how to carve out a pillar. I've usually just let them burn enough to make a well to hold a real tealight then messed around with a knife but your way sounds much neater. :-) I burn real tealights, votives, tapers, then pillars in that order of frequency but tealights the most. I have a bazillion tealight holders (ys finds) and feel they are safer than tapers with the cats. I like the beeswax or soya the best altho have a lifetime supply of paraffin ones but mostly use them outdoors in the summer. Ikea has the best quality paraffin tealights for the lowest price IMO and sell in bags of 100 for about $3 on sale ($4-something regular) and I've also bot them at YS's for even less. I do have some battery ones I got a few years ago for the RV (for safety) but wasn't impressed with the appearance of the flame altho I've been told they have improved so should give them a try again. I like the idea of remote control pillars as I have the same accessibility problem on my mantel. I'd like to use them as there are convection currents because of the stove and my beeswax tapers dripped on the silk poinsettias at Christmas.

Couldn't find any pix, but found these step-by-step instructions - maybe that would make it clearer to your webpal? Candle Holders Materials One l2 inch red taper candle 8 regular size candy canes (leave wrappers on) - all same size hot glue gun Ribbon of your choice- about l-l/2" wide (long enough to tie around candle holder and to make a bow) Procedure Remove plastic wrap from candle Position a candy cane on one side of candle (leave plastic on candy cane) and y hot glue the long portion of the candy cane to the candle with the curve of the candy cane facing outwards on the bottom of the candle- leave about an inch extending below the bottom of the candle. These handles will form the base of the holder. Glue another candy cane on the opposite side of the first one. To help position the rest of the candy canes, rest the holder on a paper plate and position the 3rd and 4th as if the lst and 2nd ones were north and south on the candle, make 3 and 4 on the east and west. Hot glue these on one at a time. Fill in the 4 remaining spaces with the 4 remaining candy canes (they will be pretty much touching each other). Tie the ribbon around the whole thing, make a bow, and secure with a dab of hot glue.
