Hydrangeas from Lowe's
Comments (13)It'll be a few days before I'm at Lowe's, but I'll try to get a name. The box had a name, but I don't know how well known it would be. Thanks for the FAQ link; I don't have any "morning sun, afternoon shade" spots, but I do have some full sun spots and a big spot that's pretty shady. I'd love to have some kind of tall flowering plant there. The more I read the more it looks like hydrangeas wouldn't be a great shade plant, but I definitely want to plant a couple in the sun....See Morehydrangea macrphylla early sensation
Comments (3)I just bought one 3 gallon planter of 'Early Sensation' for my Mom for mother's day. That website will really help me out, too. Thanks! Would one of these hydrangeas work well as a specimen in a somewhat shady side yard that lacks a bunch of space? Or should I do a mass planting? Right now I only have some August Moon hostas growing there haphazardly. I plan on sectioning off a place by my chimney with a border to keep the lawn at bay and let the hydrangea do its thing. Comments (8)There is a rule for microclimates -I cannot remember it exactly- that suggests that temperature goes down by 1 degree for every 300ft so, a suggestion would be to consider looking at their labels and choose plants good in Zone 5 (or less) rather than Zone 6. Endless Summer and Blushing Bride are examples of Macs advertised good in Zone 5. Paniculatas are also more cold resistant than macrophyllas. If you really like to have some macrophyllas, you still can grow them there but look to see if they are good in Zone 5 and, if they are not and you really want them, be ready to apply winter protection techniques. Comments (1)Hi there! I just picked up one on yesterday. My Lowe's had them on clearance at 50%. They had Sandy Summer, another pink cultivar, and Midnight Salsa. The Salsas were pretty but I planted them previously and the proved to be poor performers for me. At any rate, I planted Sandy Summer this morning in the middle of a light drizzle. It is a vigorous plant so I am hoping for good growth. We'll keep our fingers crossed....See MoreRNmomof2 zone 5
