Furniture Design Dilemma living room

Need help with living room arrangement

I just got a large sectional and need some help with how to arrange my furniture.

Couch is more too one side with minimal space between couch and wall - this leaves about 4.5 ft on the other side to walk through. Considering if I should make the couch a bit more centered.
The area rug is an 8x10. The design on it however make it hard to shift around without noticing it's off center.
The coffee table I try to place in the center of the rug in on of the rectangle designs.
I want to add a credenza on the large blank wall, but don't know what size would be appropriate. How much space should be betweeen the credenza and the rug? What if the rug comes to right in front of it?

Problem:

Not sure what should be centered and the rug design does not help! Would love suggestions on how to place the furniture in my living room area.

I would put the TV on a credenza at 25% wider on the wall opposite the windows. Art over FP. I don't see a design on the rug??? A round or oval coffee table works better with a sectional. I think couch position works well. The console on the stair wall is too small for that space

Hello Christina,

Can we get some measurements of the room? Do you want to keep the TV over the fireplace? Can you switch out the rugs from the living room to the dining room? I agree a larger entry table near the stairway would be a good idea And a larger coffee table, be it round or square, would work better. I also recommend round coffee tables because they are easier to walk around without hitting your legs on the corners. Best wishes, MAE

Can you post a picture taken from the opposite direction? I would center the sofa on the window and move the end table and lamp to the other side. Pull the chair out of the corner and place it across the room by the other chair with the table and lamp between them. Your coffee table looks like it might not be a good choice with a toddler....glass top and sharp edges, You might want to try a nice large square one (. fake leather) with a removable top for toy storage.

For your space, yes you need a bigger rug with all the furniture on the rug. If the rusty red pillows are your accent color, maybe find a neutral rug with that also as an accent. You can keep this layout and add two chairs under the window with a table in between. Or you could move the love seat under the window and add a chair diagonally across as an accent chair. You need some artwork or photos or something above the sofa. Is this room just for reading/ conversation or is there a TV? Do you need any shelving for books or storage or display items? Good luck!

That centered pattern on the rug would work better under a dining table, IMO. It is a bit skimpy for the sectional as well. The coffee table is too large and the table on the stairwell wall is too small. It should be 75% as wide as the wall area. As for a credenza, it may block up the walkway too much. Consider instead a pair of matching consoles or chests flanking the fireplace under the two windows. Personally, I would rather have TV on the wall, but you'd need a glare free one or light blocking window treatments.

It might be a good idea to look into getting a long, low console for the blank wall and then putting the TV over it and artwork over the fireplace. Here are a few ideas that might work for you:
