Beds are rarely one piece so maybe post a pic of the one you are wanting. I have a platform bed came all unassembled and no issues at all for any narrow space . The drawers are separate in a captains bed the headbord connects to the side rails I think just check at the place you are getting this they will tell you exactly .BTW how did your old desk get into the space ?

The old desk didn't get into the other bedroom (home office); it was impossible because of the size and shape of the desk (two-piece L-shape), so I ended up getting new smaller desk that I was sure would navigate around those two tight turns. DH managed to get the old desk down into the basement and had it for a few years but we finally ended up getting rid of it, didn't need it anymore because turned it into a basement bar area. That sucker was solid wood and was HEAVY, it hated to see it go because it was excellent quality and served me well for close to 20 years.

Take the mattress from your old bed and see how it navigates around corners....If it's tight, you have a problem with a one-piece bedstead.

Do they actually sell beds in one piece? How would those be delivered? I am trying to picture a bed that literally doesn't come apart in any way

If you are worried about the actual platform portion of the bed maneuvering around a corner I think @tangerinedoor has the appropriate suggestion - if a mattress or box spring can make maneuver around the corner and into the door then the platform can.

I had an adjustable bed which is the platform portion - some legs but not headboard or footboard as it is placed inside whatever decorative bedframe a person wants. There was never any issue moving it in or moving it out and then in again.

Of course now you have me worried about my actual decorative bed frame. It was brought in unassembled and then assembled in my bedframe and it isn't an IKEA type of assembled but was assembled on site by the guy who made it for me. I think it I ever move I will just have to leave it there the way some people leave their grand pianos or pool tables. 😂😂🤷🏼‍♀️

My platform bed from room and Board (not a captains bed) essentially shipped flat. Check with the manufacturer, pretty sure it will break down into smaller components.

Thanks, all. Re: mattress: I have a queen size in there now, and that obviously fit around the sharp turns, since a full is smaller that should be ok. I will have to check if what I want to get is one-piece or can be broken down when I order.

Mattresses bend and flex. Box springs are rigid. And, thickness and length count. (I have had to return an entertainment center bridge piece because it wouldn’t fit down the stairs to my basement and turn a corner. And a King headboard had to be hoisted over a balcony and come through a french door above a porch to get into my bedroom. (You don’t even want to hear the King mattress tale!). Good luck!

Obviously mattresses can bend but I think peope are assuming that OP would ensure that she could get a mattress in without bending or flexing it so that it replicates taking in a rigid board - a board is all that a platform is when detached from the headboard - it might have legs but IME legs can often by taken off but at any rate are not generally an issue.

I've owned many platform beds over the years (I kept trying and returning different brands). All of them were flat packed and easy to assemble.

@ptreckel - not to split hairs, but box springs are not rigid. They have springs and are bouncy. I think what you are thinking of is a slatted mattress base, which kind of looks like a box spring from the outside. (A lot of people seem to confuse the two, it's really common.) Some people attach legs directly to a mattress base to create a super minimal platform bed.

@mxk3 z5b_MI Note, most platform beds are not super rigid, the slats usually have some flex to them. If your goal is a bed that's completely rigid, you'll need to add something rigid over the top -- such as plywood. Or you can buy wood platform boards if you don't want to DIY it, plus they're upholstered so it's easier on the mattress. (King size boards always come in two pieces.) These ones from Room & Board are really good.

SeattleMCM…No, I am not speaking about a Platform Bed. I meant a Box Spring. I actually have box springs with, literally, springs in them! But I now recognize that most people probably don’t have those anymore. But thanks for clarifying. And I wish the OP good luck moving!

I saw some I liked at the furniture store but haven't made a final decision yet. I really, really, REALLY want the storage on the bottom so I might have to compromise and get a twin if for some reason the full won't fit around the corners. It is a spare bedroom and we rarely have overnight guests and if we do it's usually a singular; the last time we had a couple stay was maybe three years ago. But is a twin uncomfortable for an adult? Ugh. I love my house but d*mn a bonehead designed it.
