High ceiling curtain suggestions?

We are thinking of putting up motorized curtains in our living room but are not sure whether to put ceiling high ones or to just cover the lower set of windows. Will it be weird to just have curtains for the lower windows? The seller left the curtain rod and sheer curtains shown in the picture.

Also, if we do get the curtains, should we get rid of the blinds?

Is it ok to match the width of the curtains to the windows or should we extend it? We plan to put a tall plant at the left side of the lower windows and a display cabinet at the right side so we don’t want the curtains to get in the way.

Perhaps add the blinds just above lower window, which will better connect the two windows. Drapery panel choices: 1. below upper window 2. below arch 3. near ceiling

It is a lovely window. A real statement! Treat it as such!

I'd hang a rod just under the ceiling, extending beyond the window trim on each side.

Rods are available in so many great options, Polished, Dark, Pewter, whatever your style.

if the natural light on the middle window isn't an issue, I'd leave it uncovered.

On the lower window I would install x4 Inset bamboo blinds top down/bottom up Blinds.com

(come in a variety of colors from white to all sorts of natural tones)

Since the purpose of a ceiling fan is to move air, blowing air above or directly at obstructions to the flow is counterproductive. You want to move the air down where you are - I actually agree with the previous poster at the 9 foot height, but if that bugs you, no higher than even with the beams - preferably just below....to get the benefit of having a fan in the first place.. terry, with 11-12 foot ceilings, fan at 9

Look for a stud in the wall with a stud finder BEFORE you decide on where to hang the curtains. JUST because there should be a beam above the window doesn't mean there is to support the rods. It may make the difference in how you hang the curtains. At that size there's going to be some weight to them so you are going to need a secure place to hang them from.

I would hang them 3-inches above the top of the window molding which will line up to be just below the transom line. Reason: if you hang them higher than 3 inches there is too much wall showing below the rod and it will make those two narrow windows look narrower visually as it emphasizes the vertical. If, f.ex. the decision was made to remove those windows, take out everything between them and do a huge picture window in that space, then I would hang the draperies at the level of the top of the transom because the window would be much more horizontal and the effect would be different.

You want the rods even all around, so wherever you mount the rod above the windows, you want the rod above the door at the same place. Might be easier to measure down so you get them in the same place.

You're not showing us the rest of the room, but your furnishing layout needs adjustment. Center the sofa on the large window. If you have a window that commands that much attention the sofa or the chairs needs to be centered on the window.

Yes, run the drapery panels to just under the arch window. Elminate the sheers that block your view. Motorize your drapery track.

Get your furniture properly placed on your area rug. The front feet of the seat should at least be placed on the rug. See the example below.
