Should I add a window in the dining room?
Comments (17)I would want the front window of the DR at least twice as wide. And then put a smaller window, maybe up higher, maybe decorative leaded glass, on the side by the porch. At the last minute I added a small (2'x3') window to our master bedroom just to have light from a second side. Even though I knew it would throw off the symmetry of the room, I love having the light and extra openness that window provides. I can't read the measurements on your plan--what are they for the DR, and the very narrow Study, which looks like it might be too narrow to feel comfortable? Also, why the double doors into the DR from the kitchen? Could you have just the DR between the foyer and garage, with the long wall facing the front, put the study to the right of the foyer, move the J&J bath to the R corner of the house where the porch is, turn and move the BR to the R so the short side is on the front of the house, and put the study on the R side of the foyer? That way, the study would not need to be so narrow, and the bedrooms would be more private as people approach the front of the house, since they would have no windows on the porch. The other BR would now have a window only on the side of the house, and the bathroom (which could use some more space in it) could have a window on the side of the house. The porch would then be along the front of the DR, foyer, and study, between the garage and the BR. Anne...See MoreShould I add windows?
Comments (8)I would say add the windows in the bathroom, specially the one next to toilet. that way you can let fresh air from time to time, without opening the window behind the tub. for master bedroom, how about adding a big double or a triple to match the bottom two floors ? Three separate windows does not look as impressive as a one triple window. I edited the picture with a triple. Double was looking a bit off balance to me. you can play with it - may be double window but bigger size..etc. You can have a small seating area / bench inside. Or even think about a bump out with a bench....See MoreAdd window balance over wood blinds to add color?
Comments (19)I like the idea of a valance or a fabric covered cornice. Both are very easy to make and install, and you have the luxury of choosing your own fabric. Many fabric stores also offer coupons! IMO the only thing that makes a valance look dated is the style and fabric. If you choose a valance, it should NOT be frilly or too gathered! That old formula about using 2-2 1/2 times the width of the window for the amount of fabric is what would make it look dated. A valance should hang almost straight, with very little gathering, almost like a cornice. (Requires much less fabric and is cheaper too!). Good luck! post pics when you are finished....See MoreShould I add shutters to this window?
Comments (2)No shutters on that middle window. The window is too wide and there is no room for functional looking shutters in that location. And, even if you could squeeze in the right sized shutters, it would look too crowded....See Morelittlebug zone 5 Missouri
