what's a comfortable master bath shower size?
Comments (7)Those 33 x 33" showers would seem big to me - mine is 32" x 30". It fits two if we stand really close together (which is fine by me). But the key measurement if you want two people to have room to spread out is the width of the wall with the showerhead on it; thus, a 3' x 5' shower where the 3' wall has the showerhead will still feel cramped for two, unless it's one at a time under the showerhead. Maybe that's what some people want (i.e. if you're helping a young child shower), but otherwise, you'll want either a showerhead or two on the wider wall (the 5' one in this example), or ceiling-mounted showerheads. If you want a seat or ledge, add the seat depth to the overall shower size. I've never seen 5x5' or 6x4' showers, at least in any sub-$2mil house....See Moreanyone feel like thinking about master shower tile?
Comments (14)We didn't do any accent tile in our kids' baths other than in the niche for the sides and bottom, but we did use the larger field tile to keep from having to scrub grout. Count me in as another one who HATES to scrub grout. You have a great color palette going on there--very minimalist spa feeling to me. I would be inclined to use a brick pattern using the larger format tile and use your accent tile in the niche. If you wanted a little bling on the walls run a 2-4" border of the accent tile at about eye level for the walls. Or a very different option would be to run the accent tile vertically along the center of the back wall or the side walls from top to bottom. The run the larger format tile either in a vertical or brick pattern. I think that would be a very dramatic yet simple effect allowing you to deviate a little from the norm and make a 'wow' statement. Here's a pic of the kids' bath using the larger format tile set in a brick pattern: Just my $0.02. Hope it helps! -Laura...See MoreOdd size shower in master bath
Comments (2)It's true, it can be a pain to change some things. Have you checked into a special order walk-in yet? I used an off the shelf sink in my small bath and replaced the vanity in the master bath. Had drain line issues in both baths but for different reasons. With the improvements you've already done I'm sure you can work this out. What you've shown us so far looks great!...See MoreS/o question on shower size/format in master bath, what's optimal?
Comments (17)What's the optimal size for a shower in an average master bath? Ideally 4' x 5' seems to be optimal. Mine is 44" x 5' and works great. And a related question -- how much glass surround is optimal? I noticed one of the posters on the 10ft shower thread commented that 3 walls of glass made things chillier. I believe I was the one who pointed this out but the problem wasn't that it was chillier. The problem is having to clean (squeegee) all that glass every single time you shower. Otherwise you'll be constantly seeing spots and soap scum on the shower. Yes Showerguard will help with spots and soap scum, but not 100%. The problem wasn't the glass. It was having 10'. Also I just played a bit with your plan again and here are my reasons: In the second bath, I moved the shower to the wall against the existing bedroom. This way you have more room in the actual bathroom for moving around. This also one day could be a handicap accessible bath if needed. Plus now every time you need to use the sink, you don't have to first close the bathroom door just to walk around the door. I moved the entry to your master further into the hallway. This creates a bit more of an "entrance" into your bedroom and actually makes your bedroom a bit larger because you don't now have the doorway taking up space in the bedroom. Plus now the doorway isn't practically hitting the closet door. I flipped the shower and tub and the entry and vanities. Why? So the bathroom door to the closets is closer. Then I moved the bed to the right wall and the dresser to between the closets. This is the exact same size, but notice how more spacious it feels? Plus now one person doesn't have to cram into the space between the night table and closet opening to get to their clothes. (And yes, ideally no one should need to walk around the bed to get to the bathroom, but in this case, I feel the much improved layout trumps having to walk slightly around the bed....See MoreBeth H. :
