I agree with Henrik that less is more! However I have to disagree with what he has in mind. Your space is very limited. I would forgo any living plants at all. The point of your space is to create a comfortable and COOL SPOT to entertain. Because the property is not yours and you only have a few bucks to spare I think that the best thing to do is to consider using indoor/outdoor carpeting, get some paint and recondition the furniture. Check out furniture at places that sell furniture for nomads or that sell futons. Your idea of using hangings on those horrible fences is perfect. There are a host of things you can use to cover them up but first get the idea on what kind of presentation you want. You indicated an Indian (from India) motif. I think that would be preferred over Japanese as Japanese can be more formal than Indian. Again check out places that sell futons (on the net) and in NYC-you should be able to find some very hip ones there-maybe in the Village??? If you use plants use artificial plants that you can take with you. If you wish a focus I would look into a small fire pit as it is cool to sit around in a comfortable chair with your feet up chatting with mates munching out and watching the embers glow as you sip your fav brew! Am I reading you right? With only $300 you will have to use your imagination on redecorating what you have to fit the idea that you will come up with so take your time. Maybe work it all out what you really want and start planning on doing it over the course of the next couple of years. From my perspective what is most important is the comfort of sitting so check out those futon places as they will have cool furniture that just might fit your budget or at least give you ideas on how you can modify what you have-either through rebuilding or through painting or ??? And share what you do as I would like to see what you come up with!! Cheers. If you do the closeup thing on the Valencia where you can move the box around and move it so you're only on the embossed part, it looks brown. I think the green effect is probably lighting and it being next to the redder wood frame of the table, so I think you're okay. You might want to check on the Bernhardt Web site if there is a retailer near you and see if you can actually go see one, or at least if they have a book with more pics of it, or call Bernhardt and ask them what the color is. It's crazy how one thing leads to another and then another and before you know it, this project gets totally out of hand and so confusing LOL!! Your place is beautiful! Love your couch and chairs. I agree with so many of the posts, except for Cpaul!! No need to be rude! A larger picture rather than a gallery above the couch would have more punch, IMO and maybe do the picture gallery over the sideboard. Coffee table you picked will also look great. I would also recommend trying to square off the chairs instead of having them at an angle as someone suggested. Curious to see how that would look, I would love to see some cushions on the couch to compliment the colour of the chairs. Also, I love your cabinet/sideboard but I would glam it up with crystal knobs and also add some glitz items on the top, such as a white vase, glass candle holders or some white/grey small pots with succulents, maybe in a tray. I also like the idea suggested of heavier/fuller curtains. If you're a sewer, you could line them to give them more weight. Of course, nothing is carved in stone. At the end of the day, it's your place and so long as you love it that's all that matters. Also, enjoy the process!! Looking forward to more pics.
