basement rec room redo

Our basement rec room is a hodge lodge right now. We are recovering from a flood and it’s time to get new furniture and make it better. Image of the space is below. We are planning to replace all that is there so no point showing. We do need to include a workout bench and a bike, TV and storage for games as well as AV equipment. I was thinking sectional and cozy chair but I’m not sure about how to set up TV and if it has some kind of stand etc. The room is quite a square overall.

Durable basement rec room walls

You can use sheetrock with M2Tech which is impact resistant and very durable, also moisture and mold resistant. In comparison to regular sheetrock it was designed with greater resistance to impact or other abuse. That said wouldn't be easier to teach them not to run a tricycle into a walls :-)

Decorate long wall in basement rec room

The shuffleboard players can set a drink down. Maybe display some sports memorabilia, awards, plaques, etc. What would you suggest? My husband hasn’t worked in a month, so we really don’t have the budget right now to buy decorative items.

Much may depend on what colors the rubber flooring comes in. Do you have pix of that you can post? It will be a major part of the whole, and there will probably be a limited offering of colors, so I think that may be your starting point.

i think i remember you have teens/tweens so wondering if you would want a fridge or snack counter down there for movie nignts? we have that in our basement rec room and it keeps lots of traffic out of the kitchen - we also did a round game table for poker, spades etc and then we have the ikea kivic 6 seater with 2 storage ottomans for lounging (that thing holds lots of movie watchers and takes a beating) - we have it in the U shape configuration facing a large TV on a long/low console- it is simple and works well

Sorry I can’t help with layouts, hopefully one of the pros will swing by :)

Yes we have teens and tweens.

I’m thinking of doing one accent wall a dark colour and having the tv unit be same colour and possibly built in.

I like that idea - it will help a large Tv blend in and plenty of storage for games. A floor lamp of two would be nice for lighting and the wifi enabled bulbs allow teens to create custom lighting options for movie watching - for some reason my teens love creating different lighting scenes with Alexa 🤷‍♀️

My teens are angling for all kids of interesting lighting choices lol!

Thinking of this storage unit if we don’t go built in. This is more what my partner would spend on the space.

These are our ideas so far. Sectional, comfy recliner, soft ottoman/table, long and low tv stand, dark accent wall, round table and chairs, storage piece we already have and a nice rug.

Agree much got debate we’ve decided to keep this sofa after all. So still building all new furniture around it. It’s a chocolate brown colour. What should we get for accompanying comfortable chairs?
