The annual Turk's Cap lilies on steroids giveaway
Comments (25)At this time I would like to put this bulbil giveaway to bed. If envelopes are in transit I will honor your request. I assume that any envelope in transit from this time should arrive in my mailbox within the next two days. If anyone has not yet mailed me, PLEASE don't rush to the P.O. tomorrow morning. I want to thank you all for the opportunity to share. I joined GW after noticing that most of my Google searches about plants led me to this website. In my first year as a "newbie" I was rewarded with a tremendous quantity and variety of seeds from the Round Robbin Seed Swap Forum. I wish I could direct you all to a website with info on the perfect manner to propagate these bulbils. Last year I found a couple of links to the particular Turk's Cap Lily you have been mailed. I can't seem to find the information now. I believe this plant is a hybrid. We have Turk's Caps that grow wild here in Massachusetts. By comparison the plant you are getting is much taller and features much larger blooms. From what I have seen in my yard this plant does best in full sun. If I were going to sow the bulbils I would loosen the soil one or two inches and plant them in a fairly tight circular pattern. Not sure, but I think it may take two seasons to see a bloom. Peace, Out....See MoreAgastache and Turk's Cap
Comments (3)Both will root well from cuttings, with or without rooting hormones. I just stick them in moist potting soil and set them out of the way in bright shade. If your air isn't humid you might want to cover with plastic to increase the humidity. Malvaviscus (turks cap) will often have seedlings popping up around the mama plant. These are easier to dig and pot up then waiting for cuttings to root....See MoreLarge flower Turk's Cap?
Comments (28)I have Turk's Cap, variety "Big Momma". I live south of Houston in Zone 9a and this plant gets huge when we have a mild winter. In areas where it gets colder, it is more controllable because it will freeze to the ground. Last winter was very mild and my plants are now 8 ft tall and 6 ft wide, and have outgrown the space provided for them. So plant it with caution in areas where you do not get hard freezes. That being said, it does have nice red blooms and the hummingbirds go crazy over it....See MoreHave you been to St Lucia?
Comments (5)Went there what seems like a million years ago before it became an "it" destination. Spent 2 weeks in a small resort cottage with kitchen. It was a wonderful trip, tons of time to explore the whole island but so much has changed I hesitate to recommend anything. One extremely vivid memory was the flight home from NY to Chicago ...in a blizzard...overloaded plane...de-iced beyond reason...chugging down the runway.... and pilot DH telling me what to do if we can't get off the ground. I've been a nervous flyer ever since....See Moremtnrdredux_gw
