grey tile, 12x24 or 24x24? or different colour altogether?

The tile is meant to be laid in the common areas (kitchen, dining and living room).

The window trim will be the staying as is. It is pine. Planning to either paint the walls a soft white (BM Navajo white or Swiss coffee by beer), put up horizontal pine board or shiplap on the wall. Not sure yet. We mostly get east facing sun.

The kitchen cabinetry will be redone in birch in a warm modern fashion with clean lines.

Attaching some pictures just for reference of what our eventual vision is. Also, the floor plan is below for reference.

To me, rectangles read more modern than square. Can you find a larger format rectangle than 12x24? In a large space I would aim for large format tile if I could get it.

I agree the large rectangular is more modern, but I don’t think I’d go with gray, at least not that gray. You have warm trim, warm cabinets, and are looking at cool tile.

I never really recommend white grout on a floor. A gray or silver usually looks better to my eye and minimizes the sometimes too stark look that a white/white offers. White can discolor easily as well. White epoxy can also discolor, or have a yellow tint to it.

Using 12x24 wall tile as backsplash?

I thought to use this wall tile mainly because I wanted the counter backsplash to go higher up the wall instead of the standard 4". It seems the drywall always gets water spotted around the handtowel hanger no matter how careful we are not to splatter water and to wipe down. I didn't think the simple white quartz going up the wall any higher than the 4" would look right. By reusing the wall tile from the shower, it 'could' balance the room. I'm not using any trim tile (no accent mosaic) or I would maybe repeat that here. I did think perhaps I'd get tile installer to cut the 12x24 to a smaller size (6x24?, 6x12?) maybe to break the pattern up a bit. But, not sure if that is even doable. This is my first bathroom remodel so on a steep learning curve. Tks for the feedback so far.

A lot depends on the tile you are using. Large format anything comes with unique specifications for installation. There is also the chance of lippage (not perfectly flat at the edges) caused by the tiles not being completely flat, or bowed) at that size. As far as the look, it is quite common to use large format on walls and mosaics on floor, but as stated above, it depends on the actual selection. Consult with your installer regarding lay-out, appropriateness for the application, and be certain they are experienced working with large format. @tartanmeup, the other thread was for vanity size and design. I was not sure if I can add tiling qs to that thread🙂. The bathroom update was a necessity as the cabinets are falling apart and vinyl tiles are peeling off. I was gonna replace the bathtub with standing shower too but she advised against it. So doing the minimum update to make it presentable.

The gray will be tricky with pine I agree the rectangular tile is more modern I live the really huge tiles but they require a perfect subfloor and a very experienced tile setter who has done many installs of huge tiles Porcelanosa has awesome huge tile if tyou are in the budget place to choose that .IMO do not even begin to choose wall color until the flooring is in and please in this type of style make sure all the lighting in every fixture is LED 4000K

We’ve decided to not go with the tile. Too cool like some have mentioned. Will look for something either sand or bone coloured.
