Smoky x Jolyene still blooming!

last year

The first Smoky Mt. Autumn x Jolyene Nichole started blooming June 16th and the last of it is blooming today. That is longer than any named varieties, and my second longest was my seedling Bombay Silk x Vintage Wine 1. I am very happy for such good results.

Wind Frills x Vt Rose Rosey. The basic form and style of Wind Frills, color of Rose Rosey.

White Eyes Pink Dragon. First year so short and few buds but still pretty.

Nice job capturing some of the moods of Hot Cocoa. It really is like a chameleon, for me that's what makes it so charming. When it blooms in clusters of a dozen or so, almost every one can be a different hue. Then as they mature, that smokiness enters in to make them even more interesting. I've taken a number of shots of mine and many of them are so radically different in color that you'd never believe they were all of the same rose.

The Smoky Mountain Autumn seedling is lovely! It's nice when a seedling is an improvement on the parent. Lavender Dew is pretty too. Don't you hate it when the camera fogs up? I never notice until I get into the house and see my pictures are all subpar. Nancy

Sherry, It is 6 x36 but such a gigantic plant. Sometimes the blooms have been larger but not enough to consider it larger than 6. Kate, Yes I've been pleased with the colors I get. One thing I do, besides try to improve favorites or get good characteristics from some [shape, substance, bud count, etc], is consider Bob Carr's chart that shows which colors most often give what results. Generally Purple and Lavender are dominant. The only thing more dominant are tan and buff, and I have none of those [I used to have Milk Chocolate but got rid of it]. I'll say things picked up. Lots of pretty ones this time. I especially like your Smokey Mountain seedling, Barbara Mitchell and your pot of Coleus. I'm assuming these are the shade loving coleus (Wizard mix usually). I grow the sun Coleus and they are a valuable addition to my hot climate landscape plants............Maryl

White Eyes will be much taller next year. The SXJ seedling is richly colored. I see that Cherry Treat is a Joiner intro.

Your pink seedling is very pretty and it's such a bonus that it is long flowering. I like the two white daylilies too.

What a great daylily you created with that long bloom time…..how old is the seedling now? I Like the Wind Frills seedling, nice shape and color.

The Smoky x Jolyene is in its third year. The first 2 years it had few buds, many deformed flowers, was really really short. This year it has been over 6 weeks, I think it was 15 buds plus an instant rebloom scape with about 10 buds and tall. I really learned from this to not give up too soon! It is very close to the coloring of it's parent Smoky MT. Autumn.
