Nope! Not a good idea. If you do it, be sure to buy extra hardwood flooring so when you pull the rug out you can match your floors. Get some floor cushions you can store in a closet and pull out when you want to sit on the floor. What didn't you like about Ruggable? Did you try the new thicker pad they offer now?

I don't love the idea of inlaid carpet either. I would want the flooring to be continuous in the room and you could then have a broadloom carpet cut and bound to a custom size, and laid over a thick pad.

I've pulled up wall to wall carpet and the amount of dirt you will find is awful. With dogs, I like being able to pick up a rug to clean above/below if the dog had an accident or threw up. Or the dog whacked a full coffee cup on the coffee table with its tail and coffee went all over the area rug. I rolled it up and called the local rug dealer to pick it up and get it cleaned. A permanently installed carpet is never really clean.

@decoenthusiaste Thank you for the feedback. I know that most people don't like the carpet idea but the really hard floor is so uncomfortable. I've had tons of different rugs and my main issue is cleaning them. You can't do it over the wood floor so you're stuck with only vacuuming. They fade in color as well. There are two issues with the ruggable. While I love the concept, after washing it's so hard to get it just right on the pad. While vacuuming, the color has come up on mine as well.

@chispa Thank you for the feedback. I guess I thought the inlaid carpet would look better than having carpet made in to a rug. But it's definitely something to explore.

Take a look at an indoor/outdoor product. I like Stanton "Anywhere". It is okay under foot and the color choices are natural, so you could find one close to the tone of your floor.
