I actually looked into this as I'm a nut about security--here is what I have found: --you need a heavy-duty metal security strike plate secured by 4" screws that screw into stud not the door frame, medeco brand is one brand I found that was recommended, deadbolt should be a grade 1 or 2, solid metal with no exposed screws on the exterior, throw bolt at least 1" long, obviously no hinges exposed (if you want to get really wild some people suggest putting a copper pipe in the wall as what the throw bolt goes into as that would be extremely hard to kick in). I am also doing exit only deadbolts on exterior doors (if the fire dept. needs in they can kick down the door--if a burglar wants in, so can he). As Renovator suggested, keyed lock at top and bottom/pin locks on sliders/french doors. Any others suggestions welcome!

I have a number of 8 foot doors with single latches. Only the french door is a significant problem - they are solid wood entry doors and the sealing is not perfect although there is no warping after 3 years. Triple is definitely better but you don't have too....We have them at a house in high wind areas and they are great. That area requires triple latch on all doors with glass I think - we have it on a glass 6'8" door (as well as a 8 ft door) but not a solid one. Anyway - they seal great and the security is amazing. Imaging kicking in a door with triple point latches into a steel frame.... Style is one thing - air sealing, longevity and security are another. I honestly think I would do triple point on any exterior door if money wasn't an issue.

Your keyless entry lock may not be as safe as you think. A thief may be able to open it by trying as few as six combinations or just punching worn keys! I spent quite a bit of time in a work environment that had cipher (keyless) locks on certain doors. The codes had to be changed periodically for several reasons. One reason was the wear pattern on the keys. For example, if you have a lock with 10 buttons labeled 0 thru 9 and you use a four digit code such as 8-4-7-2 and never change it, only four of the ten buttons will show a wear pattern. That lets a thief know that six of the ten buttons are not part of the code, which makes it a lot simpler for him to try to figure out the access code. A three digit code makes it even easier for the thief. Some keyless locks do not allow for repeating digits in the codes. I presume thieves know this. If you have the type of lock that does not allow repeating digits, and its wear pattern is evident, it severely limits the number of combinations. A five digit non-repeating code has 120 possible combinations, a four digit non-repeating code has 24, and a three digit non-repeating code has only 6. Repeating code combinations raise those numbers to 3,125, 256, and 27 combinations respectively, but wear can patterns reduce those numbers since every repeated key is one less the thief has to try. For example, if a thief comes upon a lock with only the 3 key showing wear, he knows he only has to push that button. He just doesn't know how many times. His first guess will be 3-3-3. His second, 3-3-3-3, etc. Contrast those number with a lock with 10 digits and no wear pattern for the thief to discern. Five, four, and three digit repeating combinations now result in 100,000, 10,000, and 1,000 combinations respectively. Five, four, and three digit non-repeating combinations yield 30,240, 5,040, and 630 combinations respectively. It gets worse, much worse. Some (perhaps most) retail locks do not require you to enter the digits in any particular order, which drastically lowers the number of combinations. These locks can be opened on the first try if a wear pattern is discernible. If no digits repeat, all a thief has to do is punch each of the worn keys and turn the knob. That's it. So if you do install a combination lock, choose one that has at least ten buttons, provides for repeating digits in the combination, and be sure to change the combination--varying the digits in use--frequently enough to prevent obvious wear patterns on the keys. If possible, find one that requires the code to be entered in the proper sequence. And you thought the new lock was going to simplify things. :-)

I assume you mean single point locks? A french unit such as Marvin will probably come with a 3 point lock, which is specialty item tailored to that door. Try a good Schlage dealer, or check them online. Baldwin also has an economy line that might also fit your needs.
